Demi Lovato on re-adopting she/her pronouns: Explaining they/them was ‘exhausting’

Demi Lovato explained why she re-adopted she/her pronouns, saying that she just got “tired” of using only they/them.

In an interview with GQ Spain, the singer pointed out that she had to explain why she identified with such pronouns and educate people about it “constantly,” which eventually became “absolutely exhausting” for her.

“I just got tired, but for that very reason, I know that it is important to continue spreading the word,” she noted.

As she continues to embrace her gender identity, Demi stressed the importance of having more public spaces that could make the LGBTQ+ community feel safe and free.

"I face this every day. For example, in public toilets, having to access the women's bathroom, even though I don't completely identify with it. I would feel more comfortable in a genderless bathroom,” she explained.

The international star said she experiences the same problem when filling out forms and documents that require one to specify their gender. “You only have two options, male and female, and I feel like none of that makes sense to me. I see myself conditioned to choose a woman because there are no more. I think this has to change. Hopefully, with time, there will be more options."

The actress came out as non-binary in 2021 and announced her decision to use she/her pronouns together with they/them in August 2022. She was previously engaged to soap opera actor Max Ehrich.
