American TV personality Jerry Springer has died. He was 79.

TMZ confirmed that Jerry of The Jerry Springer Show has died peacefully at his home in Chicago on Thursday morning, April 27 (US time).

A family spokesperson has confirmed that Jerry was battling a "brief illness." Sources said that he was suffering from pancreatic cancer since he was diagnosed a few months ago. "This week he took a turn for the worse," TMZ reported.

The spokesman for the Springer family, Jene Galvin gave a short tribute to the television host.

“Jerry’s ability to connect with people was at the heart of his success in everything he tried whether that was politics, broadcasting or just joking with people on the street who wanted a photo or a word,” Jene said. “He’s irreplaceable and his loss hurts immensely, but memories of his intellect, heart and humor will live on.”

He added that the members of the family are asking friends and fans to "make a donation or commit to an act of kindness to someone in need" instead of offering flowers.

Jerry was known for hosting the long-time running syndicated tabloid talk show, which aired from 1991 to 2018.

He also served as the mayor of Cincinnati from 1977 to 1978.
