Style guide: How to get Kathryn Bernardo’s unpredictable-weather looks for less

By Brooke Villanueva Published Jul 05, 2021 8:30 pm

It’s officially the rainy season but hot days are here to stay. Manila’s weather is quite unpredictable, and for the fashion-forward, it’s best to be prepared before stepping out.

Good thing there are stylish celebrities like Kathryn Bernardo who can illustrate a myriad of outfits that you can pull off during this time. In her video blog, the actress shared some of her favorite looks (styled by Jan Aranilla) with colors centered on neutrals as well as edgy elements that balance everything out.

While she showcased a few designer creations like Balenciaga and Dior, there are lovely alternatives that won’t be too heavy on the wallet. Read on as we break them down.

Look #1: Mock neck top + loose trousers

A mock neck paired with loose trousers and white sneakers could make for a nice, casual look. In case it rains, Kathryn suggested a lightweight button-down with your hair up and off your shoulders to highlight the top’s modish appearance.

Look #2: Polo shirt + tennis skirt

Showcasing her girly side, the well-loved star rocked a “preppy and kind of sporty look” in a tennis skirt and tucked-in polo shirt. She matched it with silver sneakers, but she said a pair of white or black kicks can make you look just as good.

Think it’s going to rain? You can never go wrong with an oversized sweater or hoodie, which she particularly loves for the “boyfriend jacket” effect it gives off. “For me, this is the perfect balance of the not so hot, not too cold outfit,” she said. “We’re showing the legs so may skin but on the upper part of your body, you’re a bit covered so you can be very comfortable and cozy with this outfit.”

Look #3: Tank top + square-cut jeans

This ‘90s-inspired casual look is Kathryn’s go-to outfit—much like her “uniform,” as she put it. “You always see me wearing this combination because I feel like it’s very classic. I like incorporating the ‘90s, ‘80s style with my style,” she shared. The celebrity sported a tank top with light-washed square-cut jeans, which she said could go perfectly with Doc Martens Combat Boots. “Maganda din siyang investment. It’s a yes for me—very easy to wear, very casual, very comfortable, and you can wear it any time of the day,” she declared.

For rainy days, Kathryn said a boxy button-down polo can complement the OOTD. “You can wear this with shorts, with pants, with skirts, basically anything,” she continued, adding that you can roll the sleeves if you want to go for a more casual appearance.

Look #4: Form-fitting dress + sandals

Having brunch with friends? You might want to cop Kathryn’s monochromatic outfit in different shades of brown. “We paired it with mandals. Why? Because we want to balance the girliness of this outfit,” she explained. An element that’s also good to highlight is her clamp, which let her look put together in no time.

If it rains, she suggests putting on a lightweight linen blazer. “It’s very comfy, very chic, and very classy,” said the commercial model.

Look #5: Silk dress + leather jacket

By now, you’re probably missing nights out with your barkada. When the situation permits, Kathryn said, a silk dress could help you get your glam on.

But for an added edge, you might want to get a leather jacket—a cover-up that she cited as good investment. “For me, it’s very classic so you can use it with dresses, shirts, and you can use it for travel because it’s warm and it looks good as well,” she said.
