Eye makeup tricks we can learn from Ariana Grande

By Camille Santiago Published Jun 26, 2021 3:42 pm

The high pony, the dramatic lashes, and the dramatic winged eyeliner—you know who we're talking about. Ariana Grande's signature look has truly become a peg for many, but there's more to learn than just her every day makeup.

Grande, who is described as "an absolute beauty" with an "identifiable look," can sometimes be seen experimenting with playful makeup.

“She’s an absolute beauty in and out of makeup, and it’s a dream to paint her delicate features. We always vibe out what the feels are for the project. She has such an identifiable look, and I like to keep that in mind while adding a beautiful twist, such as a double line or a white graphic line. We’ve even created paper flowers in her lashes!” makeup artist Michael Anthony told Vogue UK.

Another makeup artist Grande works with, Ash K. Holm, told Refinery29  that eyes are always the focus of Grande's looks.

Her go-to looks include "everything from bronzed chiseled cheeks, sun-kissed highlighted skin, matte lips, winged liner, and wispy lashes." But to play things up a bit, she is "working on ways to play off of her staple look using different products, colors, and techniques."

Ahead, we've listed down some of the Grande's most dazzling eye makeup looks that you would want to try on yourselves.

White liner is your new best friend

Wearing a mask doesn't mean you can't wear makeup anymore. Instead, have fun with it and experiment with eye makeup looks. "Lil details on the eyes are more fun now that they’re all we can see while we’re MASKED UP," wrote Anthony. Here, Anthony used Haus Laboratories Eye-dentify Gel Pencil Eyeliner in Aura.

More falsies, more drama

In one of Grande's Positions music video, Anthony used falsies on her upper and lower lashes to create a retro Twiggy-inspired look.

Focus on one feature

In this makeup look, Anthony focused on Grande's eyes and kept the rest of her face simple in nude makeup. His tip: use soft brushes to blend layers of neutral and warm shades "for a soft gorgeous effect that lets Ari’s beauty shine thru." Then finish the look with highlighter and angel wing lashes.

Just wing it!

Grande is best known for her cat eye looks, and what better way to play with this trend than by adding more oomph? And so for her Save Your Tears performance, makeup artist Holm extended her wing eyeliner to give her this statement look.

Her tip is to "use an angled eyeliner brush to extend the wing, and make sure the wing is angled upward towards the tail end of your eyebrows to lift the eyes up," she told Refinery29.

Play with appliqués

Shine and shimmer like Grande's Rain On Me look. Anthony used metallic Face Lace appliqués and accented it with Swarovski crystals. Extra glossy lips and highlighter even made this look truly an obsession.

There's no such thing as too much

Make your fairytale dreams come true by wearing white eyeshadow laced with gemstones around the eyelid and the area at the bottom of the eyes.
