From runway to virtual reality: British Fashion Council launches metaverse award for digital designers

By AYIE LICSI Published Nov 30, 2021 1:56 pm

The British Fashion Council has gone meta.

For this year's annual awards, the BFC teamed up with Roblox to introduce a first-of-its-kind category that's very apt for 2021: the Metaverse Design award.

"This new award recognizes a digital designer who pushes the boundaries and showcases excellence in digital fashion design within the metaverse," the council explained.

The first winner of the metaverse design award is cSapphire, a digital fashion creative who operates a clothing boutique within Roblox.

To keep in line with the virtual nature of the category, the award will be presented by an avatar of Gucci creative director Alessandro Michele.

Roblox players can witness the Fashion Awards for themselves in the metaverse and purchase exclusive outfits until Dec. 7.

This isn't the first time fashion crossed with the digital world. Gucci previously held a fashion installation inside Roblox in May while Balenciaga, Louis Vuitton, Burberry, and Longchamp have created in-game outfits for Fortnite and League of Legends.
