Bianca Gonzalez openly talks about struggle with acne

Acne is a recurring skin problem no matter one's age. And no one is exempted, even celebrities like Bianca Gonzales.

The 37-year-old Kapamilya host revealed how she's embracing that fact in an Instagram post uploaded today, November 5.

Gonzelez shared a photo of her face with rashes, which developed since she used a retinol cream that didn't match her skin type.

"This whole quarantine, I have not gone to the derma (kasi afraid #pandemic), I have just stuck to my personal no-fail few skincare steps (I am hiyang to Cetaphil, Olay and SK-II #notanad just sharing). Kaso nung nag-try ako ng bago, ayun, nalagot," she writes.

"I tried a retinol cream at 'yun pala, hindi ako hiyang. I consulted my doctor and she helped me with it," she added.

Gonzalez said this isn't the first time she's opening up about her skin problem, as she already did earlier this week.

"I know this might raise eyebrows or make some people say 'yuck', but I shared a picture of my skin breakout a few days ago on [Instagram] Stories and got overwhelming messages from so many of you. What I posted was, 'I know there are much bigger problems in the world right now, but to anyone suffering from acne, know that you are not alone,'" she said.

Gonzelez went on to tell her followers that it's totally fine to be upset about having breakouts and that it is a common—but curable—problem.

She continued, "I guess I wanted to share this with those in the same situation who might be reading this. Again, yes, napakaraming masmalaking problema, but I feel you na nakakababa talaga ng self-esteem kapag nag-breakout lalo na madalas sa WFH [work from home], mukha talaga natin ang nakikita ng iba... So, to anyone suffering from acne, don't feel bad because 'you're not supposed to feel bad' about such a 'small' problem. Your feelings are valid! Consult a derma if you can sa Telemedicine apps. And know na hindi ka nag-iisa."

Aside from Gonzales, other celebrities have previously opened up about their skin problems and how they had it treated.

In a now-deleted Instagram post, GMA-7 star Kyline Alcantara revealed that she had skin issues in 2018.

"It started with one zit, and then it became two until I [couldn't] count them anymore," she said. "I was bashed and bullied for putting too much makeup but what they don't know is makeup na lang yung kakampi ko noon. Concealers and foundations are my best friends because they cover my breakouts so I can come out and look more presentable."

The 18-year-old actress then consulted a dermatologist who told her that her acne is caused by hormones from puberty and using skincare products that didn't go well with her skin.

Now that she's blemish-free, Alcantara advises her followers, "Don't stress yourself over something to be perfect because it will not come. Accept your uniqueness and use it to your own advantage and represent yourself proudly [through] it," she says. "Yes, even us na artista madaming imperfections kagaya niyo but as part of our job we need to look more presentable but it doesn't mean na ganun palagi."

"It's okay to upgrade and to improve yourself but it's very important na hindi dapat mawala 'yung sarili mo in the process of it. Don't let the norm and society [dictate] what you should feel and look [like]. Be your own unique you," she concluded.

A post shared by Laureen Uy (@laureen) on

Vlogger-actress Laureen Uy was not spared from having skin problems during the quarantine. In fact, she had as much as five of them—acne, rashes, flaky skin, eczema, and seborrhea.

She shared a photo of what they looked like in an Instagram post on October 24. "This is what happened to my skin a few months ago because of this cream I used and my skin went through a lot before it got back to normal. I felt very discouraged and I thought wala na 'tong pagasa, but patience really is key," she writes.

In her YouTube video also uploaded that day, Uy explained that the moisturizing cream she has been using religiously since 2015 contained steroids.

After consulting the Aivee Clinic, Uy immediately stopped using the cream and underwent clinical treatments. At the same time, she switched to a mild facial cleanser and spot corrector from the clinic.

She ended her vlog telling her viewers to "read the ingredients properly, make sure to religiously apply everything that is prescribed to you."

She added, "Don't be discouraged if you don't get clear, glowing skin overnight. Healing is a process."
