All the details at the monumental Louis Vuitton show at Seoul

By MARBBIE TAGABUCBA, The Philippine Star Published May 05, 2023 5:00 am

The big global stars, the larger-than-life light, sound and water display orchestrated by Squid Game director Hwang Dong-Hyuk, the living monument that is Jamsugyo, the pedestrian path-turned-runway beneath the Banpo Bridge before it disappears under the Han River during the summer monsoon—you’d be forgiven for being unable to zoom in on Nicolas Ghesquière’s shoes, bags and accessories for Louis Vuitton before you see them everywhere come pre-fall when they hit stores.

Ghesquière continues to blow up details of the maison’s codes, pushing at the idea of wearability with striking statement pieces for every day. The clasp of the supersized Key Pouch makes its way to chunky belts, first seen on Squid Game star and LV ambassador Hoyeon Jung as she opened the show in a puffy windbreaker, flat leather boots and an oversized Alma.

Contrasting the oversized and the puffy are the slinky and mini, from the bodysuits to the bags. New incarnations of the Loop and Petite Malle have new muted colorways. Mini Blossoms drape baggy trousers as belts, adding a swagger to the models’ every step.

Jung Hoyeon, Squid Game star and Louis Vuitton ambassador, opens the pre-fall show in her hometown Seoul.

Racing motifs like inverted checkerboard prints appear on zipped-down vests and on bags. More flat leather boots, sandals and Mary Janes all come in that Archlight platform sole—perfect for Seoul’s inclined hilly terrain.

Glamour and grit come together in Nicholas Ghesquière’s vision of wearable luxury.

It’s one of the highest-profile events since chairman and CEO Pietro Beccari started at Louis Vuitton earlier this year, blending the trappings of luxury with the grit of the street.
