When is it not okay to be not okay? Boy Abunda perplexes netizens with challenging Bb. Pilipinas 2021 question.

The question and answer portion is easily the most awaited portion of any beauty pageant. And if the reaction of pageant fans and netizens was any indication, the Q&A of the 2021 Binibining Pilipinas pageant did not disappoint.

One question that definitely intrigued viewers of last night’s pageant was that from Boy Abunda, one of the guest panelists who were tasked to ask questions to the Binibining Pilipinas semi-finalists via pre-recorded video.

Abunda’s question, which went to contestant Karen Laurrie Mendoza, goes: “Ngayon, madalas nating naririnig na it’s okay not to be okay.”

“My question is, when is it okay not to be okay and when is it okay to be not okay?”

Mendoza answered:  "You know, sometimes, it’s hard to move on especially that if we lost our loved ones. When we’re depressed, when we have anxiety, but most of all, when we want to move forward in life.

"You know, my favorite saying in a movie—Disney, Inside Out—is embrace your sadness. Because in embracing your sadness, you will feel ahh... you will feel happiness afterwards.”

Pageant host Nicole Cordoves described Mendoza’s answer as “very graceful” and Abunda’s question “challenging.” And many of those who saw the pageant agreed, with the veteran TV host trending on Twitter because of the Q&A.

Many on social media poked fun at the question, while others noted that Abunda's question was among the most challenging that night.

Mendoza failed to win a title at the Binibining Pilipinas 2021 pageant, where Hannah Arnold won the top Binibining Pilipinas International crown.

It should be noted, of course, that there are other challenging questions at the pageant's Q&A portion as well. For instance, Arnold got a question on whether genuine freedom of speech still exists in the Philippines.

She answered: "First of all, freedom of speech is a basic human right that we all must remember. It is important for a democracy. With our upcoming election, we definitely need freedom of speech. For example, on Twitter, we are limited to a few characters, and what I have seen in this Tweets is powerful. That has helped me think about who I'd like to vote for in the upcoming elections."

Meanwhile, Cinderella Obeñita, who won the Binibining Pilipinas Intercontinental title, was asked how important luxury items are for a woman when the national economy is struggle. She said, "Women always have a choice - whether to prioritize luxury items while we are facing a pandemic, and we also have a choice to embrace the concept of a New Beautiful, which is responsive to the needs of the times, and adaptive to the change of times. I think I would choose to be that woman, the one who understands the problems of the Philippines, the problems of my community, so that we may be able to uplift each other. I would be that kind of woman, to comfort the afflicted and afflict the comfortable."
