If you love the idea of a more casual and laidback style that's undeniably chic for a wedding gown, you're not alone. It's exactly what Yam Concepcion went for for her own outdoor wedding in New York City.

After a two-year engagement, the actress finally tied the knot with her longtime boyfriend Miguel Cuunjieng in an intimate civil ceremony onboard a yacht that went around the Hudson River in NYC—with a background of the Statue of Liberty, no less.

In a quick chat exchange over Instagram, Concepcion shared with PhilSTAR L!fe a couple of details from their wedding.

The dress

The blooming bride decided to shop off-the-rack for her wedding gown. She found this puff-sleeve lace dress that boasts feminine touches like lace and embroidery.

She got the Ryan dress in ivory, which retails for $795 (or around P40,000), from a New York-based fashion brand called Love Shack Fancy just four days before the big day!

"It was all last minute. I didn’t really have an idea what dress I really wanted. I was walking around 80th and Madison and my friend Angel and I came across this shop called Love Shack Fancy and saw the dress there," said Concepcion.

For her, the dress "just felt right." It has scalloped lace trims and embroidered florals, and a square neckline with a fitted bodice that nails the cottagecore look.

"I didn’t want anything grand. I just wanted something very simple," she told PhilSTAR L!fe.

The accessories

To complement her look, the Init Sa Agimat star wore dainty and delicate jewelry that has extra sentimental meaning.

"The necklace is from Miguel," she said. Describing the pendants, Concpecion shared that each were a gift from her husband, too, adding: "The diamond one is his gift to me for our second anniversary and the Mikimoto pearl pendant was his sixth anniversary gift to me as girlfriend and boyfriend."

Additionally, the bride also wore a gifted straw hat from her good friend Angel Salgado, which she personalized with flies, a type of fishing lure, that Cuunjieng made himself. "He’s into fly fishing kasi so I added those flies para naman special and may sentimental value," she said. "I guess [the hat] binded the whole look," she added.

The “bouquet”

Instead of holding a bouquet, their dog-slash-flower girl Tiny joined Concepcion as she made her way to the front of the boat. Tiny wore a flower collar, which event stylist Gideon Hermosa made and delivered from Manila.

The simple gathering turned to be extra special not only because the couple was surrounded by their closest friends and family, but the love between the two can be felt throughout.

"I’ve always believed that it wasn’t only fate that brought us together. It was our constant effort of [being there] for each other whether through video calls, leaving voice messages or extra long texts," Concepcion told Cuunjieng during the exchange of vows.

What does it feel like getting married in NYC? Why did you choose to get married there?

Our first date was at Chelsea Pier. So New York is really a special place for me and Miguel. In 2015, he gave me an envelope and he told me not to open it. So kept my promise. I kept it and never opened it. Fast forward to the wedding day, he says his vows and then he brings out the envelope to reveal. Yung laman pala ng envelope vows nya from his 28 year old self to me. Omg! So we had 2 vows. His present vows and his 2015 vows to me. That’s when I lost it! I cried so much!

Getting married in New York is very special. Our first date as a couple was in New York. So it felt like the starts really aligned for us.

How does it feel like now that you’re married?

So happy that our civil wedding pushed through despite the pandemic. It turned out to be the wedding we really wanted: simple, intimate and real.

What were some of your favorite moments during the wedding?

We had the Statue of Liberty in the background during the ceremony, which I think is pretty cool.

My fave moments are when Miguel revealed to me what was in the envelope, his present vows, and when he read his vows he wrote in 2015! The speech of his dad was fantastic, too!

Looking at pictures now, para tuloy may pagka-Bridgerton yung feels [ng wedding].

So every detail talaga of the civil was very personal. From the dress (my something new), to the hat. And then I added flies which Miguel tied (something borrowed). The earrings I wore naman [was a] gift from my grandmother a long time ago (something old). And then for my something blue, Gideon [Hermosa] made Tiny‘s flower collar. It had a blue flowers, so I guess that’ll pass na for my something blue. Also, there’s this Filipina here in New York who gave [me] a bag with a blue tassel. They are called Ia’s Threads.
