How skincare became my therapy during quarantine

By Hannah Mallorca Published Oct 05, 2020 1:01 am

I’ve known about skincare for quite some time, but I didn't take it seriously until recently. Before quarantine, my only skincare routine was washing my face with a cleanser and applying sunscreen before leaving.

However, living in quarantine made me more anxious. With this, I slowly discovered how to take care of myself. It’s been six months since I’ve delved into the world of skincare. Sweeping a silky moisturizer or putting on a face mask after work has helped calm down my nerves. It has slowly grown as a form of therapy during quarantine.

I’m still learning about skincare, so I don’t think I consider myself an expert. But here are some products that I’ve been enjoying recently. These are all affordable and you get value for your money.

Wearing makeup while working from home helps you feel normal. At the end of the day, taking it off feels very satisfying.

Washing your face is not enough to remove your makeup. Before turning on the tap, make sure to gently wipe off your face with a makeup remover. It helps get the excess products off your face without leaving a trace.

These makeup wipes from blk have been my favorite recently. It removes my makeup while leaving my skin refreshed and bouncy. You don’t have to worry about harming your skin’s natural pH level since it's alcohol-free.

Putting on a face or sheet mask is one of the best ways to relax after a stressful week. Finish your day with this refreshing sheet mask from blk in Coco Crush.

This sheet mask features natural coco jelly and hyaluronic acid which keeps your skin hydrated. It feels like a second skin every time I put it on, and I wake up with softer and more moisturized skin the next day.

A small tip: Make sure to have your sheet mask for 15 to 20 minutes, or while it still feels damp. Letting the sheet mask dry can irritate the skin.

Since you’re wearing a face mask and face shield, it can get uncomfortably hot. Cool your face down by spraying this mist from blk in Wondermelon.

This has been one of my must-haves every time I leave the house. It leaves my skin refreshed, especially during a hot day. The face mist also doubles as a primer that you can use before applying your makeup.

Senka Perfect Whip Cleansing Foam

If you’re a beginner in skincare, this cleansing foam from Senka is a great way to start. This cleanser is made of gentle ingredients, suits all skin types (especially oily and combination skin), and it’s allergy-tested.

What I love about this cleanser is its micro-dense foam that removes deep-seated dirt without irritation. It will leave your skin feeling smooth and moisturized after every wash. Perfect for protecting your skin against dullness, which is one of the signs of aging.

You can use a cotton pad or clean hands to gently apply the toner on your skin. Don’t forget your neck since toner can slow down the aging process.

A serum is considered as a supercharger of the skin. Since I have dry skin, I tend to be very picky with what to use.

This serum from Ellana has been a great alternative to my everyday toner. It includes 89% wild Korean yam, and it’s specially made for dry skin and for people who live in harsh environments. What’s great about it is that it’s also environment-friendly and locally made.
