From sparkly to body-hugging fits: 10 stunning looks from the Miss Grand International 2021 evening gown prelims

Sixty-one stunning ladies paraded on the Miss Grand International 2021 evening gown preliminaries with elegance and grace, showing off the masterful creations from designers from all over the world.

The pageant witnessed the slow but steady return of a physical runway as the ladies glid on an elevated stage in Bangkok, Thailand. Of course, it didn’t have the packed audiences of the past but the magic is still there.

A good number of candidates rose above the rest as they showed off how they carried their sartorial choices with sophistication and poise. Here are the queens who stood out among the Miss Grand International 2021 evening gown prelims.

Adriana Moya (Costa Rica)

Adriana looked like a graceful bird in motion as she glid on the stage in this sparkly number by Brazilian fashion designer Hélcio Junior. Even though she showed skin (in the right places), she managed to carry the gown with grace. Her look is one of the clear standouts—despite the number of sparkly gowns in the prelims.

Sothida Pokimtheng (Cambodia)

Sothida channeled her inner Madonna as she paraded on the stage with a see-through golden gown adorned with colorful gemstones. The gown’s sweetheart neckline reminds us of the iconic Jean Paul Gaultier Cone Bra, but in a really classy way.

Geysel Vaillant (Cuba)

What was supposed to be just another silver gown turned out to be an entertaining delight. Geysel’s gown seemed to be a risky mishmash of details including the halter neckline, beaded details, and two-piece fit—but it turned out to be a performance worth enjoying.

Samantha Panlilio (Philippines)

Of course, Samantha’s bespoke sheer cape gown sent a strong statement that she’s no pageant patty. The gown, designed by Rian Fernandez, is inspired by the Philippines’ lashed-lug boat used as trading ships in pre-colonial times.

Viviane Diaz Arroyo (Puerto Rico)

Viviane’s body-hugging gown with intricate beadwork by Luis Lopez proved that she is Miss Grand 2021’s resident golden girl. The gown seems simple at first glance, but the way she carried with sophistication and elegance proved that she’s one of the candidates to watch out for.

Sophia Rogan (Indonesia)

Wearing colors like white or black can sometimes be forgiving under pageant lights, but Sophia’s “Gaia” showed that it can be done. The sparkly black couture with strategic cutouts and slits by Wu5 Prive sent a message to the judges that she’s ready to wear the Miss Grand crown.

Mariana Jaramillo (Colombia)

Mariana’s gold and dark blue gown by Rafael Ballestas Sandoval seems too busy at first glance, but it totally works. She carried herself with the powerful confidence of a queen without allowing the detailed creation to overshadow her completely.

Nguyen Thuc Thuy Tien (Vietnam)

Long sleeves seem like a kiss of death for evening gowns since they can either overpower someone’s figure or look too frumpy. However, Thuy Tien's long-sleeved beaded red gown showed that she’s a sexy goddess personified.

Lorena Rodriguez (Brazil)

A red gown with feathery details seems like a classic choice for pageant queens (which is risky), but Lorena’s sexy gown is a fun twist. The red gown is adorned with gemstones and feathers but it managed to look sensual and classy. This pixie-hair cut baddie showed that she’s one of the queens who need to be noticed.

Stephanie Medina (Dominican Republic)

Stephanie channeled her inner Naomi Campbell as she sizzled in an aquamarine gown with a thigh-high slit. In contrast to the dress’ sexy fit, she managed to carry the gown with the elegance of a boss lady. The duality!
