Derek Ramsay says engagement ring for Ellen Adarna neither 'passed on' from ex-girlfriends nor an ex-deal

Derek Ramsay and Ellen Adarna have been in the news—yet again—after they revealed their engagement last week. To recall: the relationship of the two blossomed only two months ago, after the actress attended an intimate dinner party held at Derek’s house in January.

This time, their bashers, at least according to Derek, are claiming that the engagement ring the 44-year-old actor gave to Ellen during his proposal was “passed on” from his former girlfriends. As in, some of Derek’s followers and naysayers are harboring suspicions that he had already given the said engagement ring to his exes.

But Derek clarified this in an interview with writer G3 San Diego on her Instagram page on Monday, April 5.

In the interview, Derek questioned the rumor, since it wasn’t not even reported that he had been engaged before. He said that the ring is also not an “ex-deal” or something he received in exchange for a service or promotion.

He also expressed his confusion over the choice bashing he has been receiving about his love life. Before his relationship with and engagement to Ellen, Derek was in a relationship with actress Andrea Torres; the two broke up in November last year.

“Sa mga bashers na sinabing pinagpasahan ko ‘to, e di dapat nasa news ako na engaged na before, di ba?” Derek said. “First time ko narinig na ex-deal. That’s funny pero yun nga, they said that this ring has been passed on to all my exes and that’s just so low.”

He added, “I’m numb already. I don’t understand their way of thinking anymore.”

Derek said that comments online used to criticize him for being unable to settle down with a partner. “Then when the article came out (that we’re engaged, and they saw how honest I was about my feelings for Ellen, they said that I’m just like that to every one of my girls.  I propose to Ellen, I proposed na pala to all my girls. Naguguluhan na talaga ako.”

Derek shared that his mother offered to give him a ring—a 7.8 diamond ring, to be exact—to give to Ellen for his proposal, but he refused, saying he thought that it was “too big” for an engagement ring.

“I want to purchase this one,” he said of the ring to he gave to Ellen. “I purchased this diamond.”

Again addressing the rumor that the ring was either an ex-deal or recycled, Derek said: “There’s tsismis na pinagpasahan daw ito ng mga exes ko which is so funny. It (the ring) was perfect. It was how I imagined it. It just came out perfect.”

“I tagged the people who did the ring because I’m appreciative. There’s no ex-deal here. Nothing of the sort.”

He further said, “My God, ang cheap naman nun. This is me getting married. This is me proposing. Hindi ko nga tinanggap yung 7.8 carat diamond from my mom, di ba?”

Meanwhile, in an interview with Metro.Style, Ellen said she and Derek had been talking about marriage even before the proposal happened.

“He told me he was going to marry me three times before he proposed,” Ellen said.

She also said, “All relationships start great. And all these relationships made me realize what I want and what I don’t want. What fits and what doesn’t fit. What’s good for me or not good for me. But with Derek, I didn’t have to impress him, and I felt accepted immediately. I don’t feel the pressure of having to change this or that. We’re always laughing and I’m very comfortable around him. I feel safe and I feel good about myself, and I feel okay. I’m in a good place.”

Ellen added, “It took me 32 years. I thought I was in love before, and it’s so different from what I have now.”
