Chances are, you have probably dreamt of studying abroad at least once in your life. And it makes perfect sense.

When you’re schooling in a foreign country, everything that you stumble upon beyond the classroom—may it be new people, cultural practices, or even food—becomes a learning experience that could get you ahead in life.

It’s high time that you turn that long-held ambition into a reality, as the Embassy of Hungary in the Philippines and the Hungarian government are giving you the chance to study in Hungary for free starting 2021.

Through the Stripendium Hungarian Scholarship program, 35 students from the Philippines will be given the privilege to study for free in one of the 30 universities enlisted in the program. It includes the Budapest Business School, Budapest University of Technology and Economics, Hungarian Dance Academy, Hungarian University of Fine Arts, Liszt Ferenc Academy of Music, and several city universities.

The Stipendium Hungaricum program offers more than 500 undergraduate degrees (2 to 4 years) and masteral programs (1.5 to 2 years) with courses ranging from medicine, architecture, and engineering to water technology and agriculture. They also have doctoral programs (4 years) in any academic field. All of them are taught in English.

In addition to that, all degrees follow the European Bologna scheme and are recognized anywhere in the world.

You don’t have to worry about the cost of living because besides that it’s cheaper by  more than half of the countries in the world, the scholarship will cover much of your expenses.

Aside from the tuition fee, Stipendium Hungaricum will provide you with free accommodation in a student hostel or a contribution of Ft40,000 or P6,500 per month. You will also be given medical insurance of up to Ft100,000 or P16,500 per year. And with your student ID, you can get 50 percent discount on travel costs within the country.

All that, on top of a monthly allowance of Ft43,700 or P7,000 if you’re taking a bachelor or master’s degree, and Ft140,000-180,000 or P23,000-30,000 for those enrolled in a doctoral program.

Is a visa required for application? Stipendium Hungaricum clarified that visa application is only required once you have received positive feedback from them about the scholarship. “Officially, it may take 30 days until a visa is issued,” they added.

Deadline for applications is on Jan. 16, 2021, but the Embassy of Hungary in the Philippines highly recommends sending your requirements in advance. To get started, click here.
