It’s a night they surely will not forget.

Even though they are hospitalized for COVID-19, married couple Frank and Masako Martinez from Illinois in the United States managed to spend a night together.

This is after nurses at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in O'Fallon, Illinois, where the couple is currently being treated, arranged a special “dinner date” on Wednesday, Jan. 27 for them. The couple has been together for 63 years.

Frank, 93, and Masako, 86, are confined in the same hospital, but are treated in different areas.

The hospital shared photos of the elderly couple during their “dinner date” on their Facebook account, where it can be seen that Frank and Masako were even sharing the same blanket.

“When a family member mentioned that they are always inseparable and very dependent on each other, their nurses, Kim and Hannah, made a plan,” St. Elizabeth’s Hospital shared in the social media post. “The couple were treated to a special ‘Dinner Date’ night where they were able to see each other, hold hands and eat together for the evening. Just as they have done for so many years.”

Comments on the post have been positive, with one Facebook user saying, “I have known these two love birds since the 60s. My parents were dear friends of theirs. And their family is so right. They were inseparable. They are the sweetest couple ever. Prayers for them and for all of you doing what you all do.”

This moment of levity, of course, is an exception in the struggles the United States is facing in dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic.

CNN reported on Thursday that January has been the deadliest month of the pandemic of the US. It recorded more than 79,000 coronavirus-related deaths even before the month ended. A year since the country  reported its first coronavirus case, the US has tallied over 439,000 deaths.

In a December press conference, US President Joe Biden promised to provide 100 million COVID-19 vaccinations in the first 100 days of his term.
