‘Baguio’ trends on social media after Paolo Contis clarified that Yen Santos visited him there ‘as a friend’
Baguio City has become a trending topic on social media after Paolo Contis’ clarified that his A Faraway Land leading lady Yen Santos visited him in the popular tourist spot “as a friend.”
The trending topic came after Contis finally broke his silence, through a lengthy Instagram post on Wednesday night, on the viral posts of him with a mystery woman in the City of Pines. There are over 5,000 tweets under the topic, as of this writing.
Following Contis’ ex-partner LJ Reyes’ unedited interview with TV host Boy Abunda, photos and videos of the actor with a mystery woman in Baguio City circulated on social media. Hawk-eyed netizens identified the woman as Santos, which he then confirmed.
“When LJ left for the States with the kids, I went to Baguio for 3 days dahil ayaw ko sa Manila at gusto kong makapag isip isip. Naging insensitive ako about the possible effects nung issue and I invited Yen for a day para may makausap since malapit lang siya sa North din,” he said.
Contis then clarified that Santos visited him “as a friend.” “She went there as a friend. Hindi ko naisip na madadamay siya ng ganito. I’m sorry for this."
‘Naging marupok at gago ako’
The actor also confirmed a third party was involved in his separation with Reyes, but clarified that Santos was “never the reason for our break up.”
“Aaminin ko, naging marupok at gago ako sa ilang taon naming pagsasama. I’m not proud of it. For that, I’m sincerely sorry. I’m truly ashamed of my actions,” he said.
He also added: “(Santos) was never the reason of our break up. I was. Kung matagal na kaming hindi okay ni LJ, it was mainly because of me. Masyado niyo siyang diniin sa issue na to. Pati pag promote namin ng movie nabahiran na ng kung anu ano.”
Contis and Reyes were in a relationship for six years before their controversial breakup was confirmed by the former’s manager Lolit Solis in August. The actress described their breakup as “difficult and painful” in the aforementioned interview.
Santos is Contis’ leading lady in the 2021 film A Faraway Land. It tells the story of an investigative journalist meeting a Filipina expatriate in Faroe Islands, Denmark.
