Ex beauty queen Samantha Lo crowned Century Tuna Superbods 2020 winner

By Camille Santiago Published Sep 23, 2020 12:04 am

Seemingly owning any pageant she has walked into, Binibining Pilipinas Grand International 2019 Samantha Ashley Lo bagged the Century Tuna Superbods 2020 title last September 19.

Sam received the coveted title at the #StayStrong-themed award, winning a grand prize of P500,000 alongside model Sam Ajdani who had won in the men's category.

After her Binibining Pilipinas stint, Sam has since shifted her focus to advocating health and fitness. She shared that and more with Philstar.com prior to the competition—to those who have gotten more curious now, learn more about this new ambassador of 'strong and sexy' below!

1. Samantha joined the pageant world by accident

Then unaware of beauty pageants, Sam never really thought of joining one—until she came across a pageant camp the famed Aces and Queens group has held in Cebu. In 2017, she joined her first pageant as Miss Mandaue only to fail. That same year, she also joined Binibining Cebu 2017 and finally won the Binibining Cebu Tourism plum.

In 2018, Sam also joined Global Asian Model Philippines, winning Best Model of the World Philippines. Just last year, she was crowned Miss Grand International Philippines. She, however, had to let go of the title a month after her "airport controversy."

2. She teaches at Enderun Colleges

Sam is also an English is a Second Language  instructor in Enedun Colleges, Taguig, teaching English language to non-native speakers. According to her Miss Grand International bio, Sam "is a staunch believer in the power of education to uplift the lives of people, and with learning and communication as her advocacy, she has taken it upon herself to spend time with young children in public schools to teach them how to read."

3. Samantha is a lola's girl

This Filipino-Chinese-Cuban-Nicaraguan is admittedly a lola's girl. Once in a while, Sam would share Instagram snaps of her with her grandmother, whom she said became a big influence in her life. Unfortunately, her grandma Apo, who was comatosed for a year and a half, passed away last July. Sam would later post the follow as tribute to her lola. "I got you a plant earlier today, of course I call it Apo so you can always be here even when I know you’re having a better time in heaven because let’s be real, who the hell wants to be here in the middle of COVID, and I know that as long as it grows happy and healthy so are you."

4. Samantha is a total adventure seeker!

A peek into her Instagram account reveals Sam's thirst for adventure! She has gone inside a pyramid in Saqqara, Egypt. She has climbed Mt. Makiling, Mt. Pulag, Mt. Ulap., and even mountains in South Korea. She has basically labeled herself as nature's daughter!

We fall. We break. We fail. But then, We rise. We heal. We overcome. . . I think the greatest thing about Mt Pulag is the respect people give it. We respect its nature by making sure not a single wrapper is left behind or a flower is plucked from its soil. We respect the silence and do not pollute the air with noise. If I ever took a picture I ask the trees "pwede pa picture po? Salamat po?. '" When trekking we give way to the natives and walk the same path so as not to create sand erosion. And no campfires are started either. And in reward this remarkable mountain will give you the most beautiful and raw scenes of nature, the cleanest air and fresh mineral water, colors of sunset you've never seen before. And finally, a sky full of bright stars, things you thought only exist in a picture. Climbing to its summit which sits 2,926 meters in the sky was the best way to end my 2019. And if that's how God is letting me end my year, then I can't wait to see what lies ahead in 2020 ? . . . . . . . #fujifilm #fujifilmxt20 #fujifilmphotography #fujifilmphilippines #adobelightroom #lightroomedits #mtpulag #mtpulagsummit #mtpulag2019 #trekkingmtpulag #sunset #sunsetphotography #mountainstories #mountainlife
