LIST: Bike events happening in and near Manila to mark World Bicycle Day 2022

This Friday, June 3, marks World Bicycle Day, a day that aims to draw attention to the benefits of using the bicycle—the most simple, affordable, clean and environmentally fit sustainable means of transport. 

More Filipinos have turned to biking during the pandemic and this year it looks like festivals, bike clinics, and fun rides are finally back in full force after two years.

Here's a roundup of some of the cycling events and festivals happening in and near the metro this weekend from June 3 to 5, 2022.

Philippine Cycling Festival, Clark, Pampanga (June 3 - 5)

The very first Philippine Cycling Festival is happening in Clark, Pampanga on June 3 to 5, 2022. The three-day event will feature a variety of cycling activities, including fun rides, a criterium race, gravel race and live performances from Gracenote and 6cyclemind.

To kick off the events on June 3, Clark is officially launching its "Clark as a Biker-Friendly Zone" campaign, which envisions heightened accessibility, sustainable and healthy lifestyles, and environment-friendly initiatives through cycling.

Part of the campaign is the official launch of bike-related projects such as the new bike paths, Bikers' Pitstop, CXC Trail, and more as one of the main highlights of the first Philippine Cycling Festival.

SM Bike Safety Clinic (June 3)

SM by the BAY, SM Cares and partners will honor bike commuters through a Bike Safety Clinic happening on June 3 at the North Fountain, SM by the BAY. Beneficiaries will learn the basics of bike commuting and safety through a comprehensive discussion with several perks such as bike tune-ups, bike fitting, and bike safety kits.

Quezon City's World Bicycle Day (June 3)

The Quezon City government is holding a Bike Run and Bike Bazaar Event at the Quezon City Hall to celebrate World Bicycle Day this coming June 3, 2022 from 5:00 am to 5:00 pm. The event includes a group bike ride around Quezon Memorial Circle, Commonwealth Avenue circling back through Sandigan Bayan Tunnel. The event is open to the public and free to join and register.

Pasig Bike Fest (June 4)

Pasig City is hosting a Bike Fest at The Grounds in Ortigas East on Saturday, June 4 from 6:00 am to 10:00 pm. The event lineup includes a Free Bike Maintenance Workshop by Decathlon Philippines, Coffee by Kombi Brew, People’s Street, Food+Drinks, and Arts+Design studios.

Hotel 101 - Bike Route & Free Coffee for Bikers (June 4)

Hotel 101 Group is celebrating World Bicycle Day with the launch of its 101 Bike Route and Horizon Cafe Biker Offers, as part of its sustainability and health and wellness projects. The bike route starts from Jinjiang Inn - Ortigas to Jinjiang Inn - Makati, then through one of the famous tourist spots in Metro Manila, Intramuros and Fort Santiago, before closing the route at Hotel 101 - Manila.

Starting June 4, Horizon Cafe is giving out FREE Unlimited Coffee for all bikers visiting its Metro Manila restaurants on Saturdays and Sundays from 6:00 am to 12:00 nn. The hotel also launched its bike racks and parking, as one of the establishments that actively promotes biking and alternate modes of mobility and transport among its employees and guests. The free coffee isn't just for the weekend, and will be given to bikers for the rest of the year.

1st Biking x Fitness Festival (June 5)

In line with World Bicycle Day, CycleHouse is organizing a leisure bike ride from CycleHouse G. Araneta to Quezon City Memorial Circle on Sunday, June 5, starting at 7:00 am. The family-friendly bike adventure ride is an easy 6.4 km ride assisted by a security marshall. 

Bikers can bring their kids along for some summer games for kids while biking, including maze bike paths, treasure hunts, and more. Bike fitness service, tune-ups, and discounts will also be available at the event.

Safe Street Program, Taguig (June 1 - 5)

In celebration of World Bicycle Day, the city of Taguig is launching the Safe Street Program, which aims to provide a space for recreational activities for residents by temporarily converting a street into a safe, open space for all. 

The City of Taguig will be holding various events until June 5, including bike lessons, advocacy talks, party games and raffles. Expect bike shops, food stalls and open spaces for outdoor activities such as zumba, badminton and skateboarding for people to enjoy during the Safe Street Program. To give way for the said event, the C5 Service Road, near Bayani Road where the activities will take place will temporarily be closed during some activities.

The Taguig Bike Loop challenge is open to all Taguigeños. Everyone is invited to share their cycling stories and suggest how the city can improve everyone’s cycling experiences.
