One common storyline that present in romantic movies and shows is characters finding love while traveling, but it seems that plot is reflective of reality after all as a study has revealed that seven in 10 Filipinos are likely to seek out a holiday romance during their travels.

In a survey conducted by Bumble in partnership with YouGov Singapore on 1,000 people using the app, it was found that an overwhelming majority (73%) are open to using dating apps while they’re traveling.

The desire to explore international romance is strong in the Philippines, with nearly 10 percent of Filipinos believing that it is easier to date in another country. This is slighly more apparent in men as it was revealed that 73 percent of them are likely to seek out a date during their travels compared to women, with 71 percent.

However, sparking a love story with a stranger in a foreign country seems a bit risky, especially to a first-timer in both dating and traveling. But it's not always the experience for all. To avaoid situations like these, here are some tips to both have fun and stay safe while finding a "wanderlove" connection on dating apps like Bumble.

Avoid secluded areas to meet

If you have now gone past the getting-to-know-each-other stage and are itching to meet your date face to face, it's important that you settle on a meeting spot in public so that you can easily call attention to yourself in case an issue arises. It's also better to opt for daytime dates, as you can feel safer than a nighttime meeting.

Stay open-minded

The gamble in online dating is that the person you're speaking with on the app may be entirely different when it comes to their real-life behavior. It's always good to keep an open mind when it comes to these things and explore dating etiquette from different cultures.

Use the voice call or video chat

With the rise of people faking their information and identity, this puts you in a risky situation in finding love online. That said, try to maximize features in Bumble and other dating apps that will let you know more about your potential date, such as using their voice call or video chat options so you can verify your matches' identity and get to know them better before meeting in person.

Share your travel activities

According to a study by YouGov Singapore, 38% of Filipino singles cited that one of the top channels to connect with people on holiday is while doing tourist activities. With this, it's recommended that you try to share some of your travel goals and activities that you would want to do on your trip so that you can attract more people who have similar inrerests as you.
