Grade 9 Filipino students, this is your chance to study in Singapore.
The country's Ministry of Education recently announced the ASEAN Scholarship for the Philippines, which is offering a myriad of opportunities for ninth-grade students to gain new experiences and develop important skills like leadership and communication. "They can also help to promote goodwill and understanding among young people from different countries and Singapore," the government ministry said.
The following Filipino nationals are eligible for the program:
- those who are born between Jan. 2, 2007, and Jan. 1, 2010;
- those who are in Grade 9 or above;
- those who are proficient in English;
- those who have done consistently well in exams; and
- those who engage in co-curricular activities.
The scholarship is inclusive of annual allowance with hostel accommodation, settling-in allowance, return economy airfare, school fees, examination fees for the General Certificate of Education Ordinary Level and Advanced Level (once only, as applicable), as well as subsidized medical benefits and insurance cover for accidents.
The scholarship is valid for four years (Secondary 3 to Pre-University 2), leading to the Singapore-Cambridge GCE A-Level certificate or similar qualification. It will be renewed annually based on the student's performance.
The deadline for applications for the ASEAN Scholarship for the Philippines is on April 26. Interested students may visit this link to apply.
Shortlisted candidates will be informed at least a week in advance to attend a selection test in June, as well as a selection interview in August.
