Ellen Adarna talks about breakup with John Lloyd Cruz: ‘We weren’t compatible, obviously’
Ellen Adarna says she is now on good terms with ex-boyfriend John Lloyd Cruz.
But the 32-year-old actress admits that she may have been the reason for their split all along.
In an interview with Preview Magazine published Saturday, January 9, Ellen said of her relationship with John Lloyd: “Because I had so many issues na hindi pa na-resolve, I was projecting it on him.”
She added: “Now I’m in a very good place. I can say I’m 100 percet okay. I feel my environment changed. Like his approach to me, my relationship (with him has) changed without asking him to change."
“So I was just really the problem. How I viewed it, my thinking pattern was the problem.”
Ellen also said: “You know, we weren’t compatible, obviously, that’s why we broke up. Of course, any normal break up hurts. You want things to work.”
Ellen and John Lloyd made the headlines when they took a break from showbiz following reports that they were in a relationship.
Ellen gave birth to Elias, her son with John Lloyd, in 2018. But the couple broke up in 2019.
The actress said she is “co-parenting” Elias with John Lloyd, who she describes as a good father.
“My son needs him as much as he needs me. I see their relationship and I see how happy my son is when he is around. So that’s why I also have to work on myself,” she said.
Ellen also said in the interview that she experienced postpartum depression after a difficult pregnancy with Elias and the death of her father.
“I really went on a downward spiral. I really lost it,” she said.
This prompted her to join a healing program in Bali, Indonesia, which helped her deal with her depression and anxiety. Ellen has been documenting her mental health journey since March.
After a three-year hiatus from showbiz, Ellen makes her TV return via the sitcom John en Ellen, which will premiere on January 24.
