LIST: LGBTQ+ celebrities who started their own families via surrogacy

By Ratziel San Juan Published Feb 22, 2023 7:17 pm

The decision to have a child now requires much more foresight and planning as deemed by today's socially aware generation, who seem to have progressive ideals in tune with the times.

Another upside to the present is how people are no longer pressured (at least not internally) to have a baby if they don't feel like it.

Conversely, there are also some who have shown it's just as okay for couples who have the means to care for children to rely on external help. Here are some LGBTQ+ celebrities and personalities who successfully began their own families through surrogacy.

Tan France of Queer Eye announced that he and his partner, Rob France, are expecting by sharing an "ultrasound" photo. "With the greatest gift/help of the most wonderful surrogate, Rob and I are lucky enough to be on our way to being parents, this Summer. Something we’ve wanted for soooo many years. Our hearts are so full right now. I cannot wait to hold this baby, and to show him so much love," Tan said.

Elton John

Elton John and his husband David Furnish share two children Zachary and Elijah from the same surrogate mother. According to BBC News, the couple hoped to adopt a 14-month-old Ukranian boy in 2009 but officials said Elton "was too old and their civil partnership would not be recognized as a marriage by Kiev."
