Gerald Anderson tells bashers: ‘It’s not my goal to make you change your mind about me’

By CHUCK SMITH Published Mar 07, 2021 9:18 pm

Gerald Anderson knows you’re talking about him—specifically, about his past relationship with Bea Alonzo and his recently-confirmed, now Instagram official relationship with Julia Barretto.

He knows people got mad at him because of his love life. He knows you’re making memes about him, making comments about him on social media, dissecting every post and statement he makes.

He is no longer annoyed or angered by these negative comments made about him on social media. Still, the actor, who turned 32 on Sunday, March 7, said he sometimes wonders how netizens can say the things they say about other people—celebrities included.

“Kapag binasa mo rin—kahit kapag binasa mo yung (comments) sa ibang artista o politician—grabe talaga e, ang lala na talaga ng platform ng social media for people to (express) yung frustrations nila sa buhay,” Gerald said about bashers during his virtual press conference for multivitamin supplement Rogin-E on Friday, March 5.

But Gerald said he has learned to “move on” and “not take anything personally.”

“You know, I’ve come to a point na kahit anong gawin ko… Bakit istre-stress yung sarili ko sa opinyon ng taong yan?” he said.

Staying away from stress and unnecessary drama sa buhay. Malaking bagay din yun, e. Isa yun sa mga na-realize ko during the pandemic.

The actor also said besides from staying active and working, he takes care of himself by staying away from the negativity and the unnecessary noise.

“Staying away from stress and unnecessary drama sa buhay. Malaking bagay din yun, e. Isa yun sa mga na-realize ko during the pandemic,” Gerald said when asked how he takes care of himself.

He added, “Nagkaroon tayo ng downtime, e. Lahat tayo. Kahit sino ka pa. Nagkaroon tayo ng down, quiet time. So na-realize ko na you have to stay away from toxic people, also. Pero, again, sa social media, punong-puno ng toxic people, toxic comments. You have to filter it out.”

“In short, siguro, kailangan maging makapal mukha mo.”

Perspective

These negative comments, of course, come from people who are invested in his colorful love life since 2019, when he broke up with Bea Alonzo and was first rumored to be dating Julia Barretto.

While the interest in his love life slightly died down as the months passed—with Gerald and Julia hinted heavily and stating separately that they were in relationships and that they wanted to have children—social media is yet again filled with posts and memes about Gerald.

This is after Gerald admitted that he is in a relationship with Julia while saying that he didn’t “ghost” Bea, a statement contrary to the 32-year-old actress’ previous revelation.

Gerald also said that his relationship with Bea became toxic. Gerald’s relationship with Bea is just as colorful as his love story with Julia, being in a romance with the actress in 2010 that was immediately halted due to his onscreen partnership with ex-girlfriend Kim Chiu, , only to rekindle it in 2017 after starring in a movie together.

Meanwhile, Gerald was rumored to be seeing Julia romantically after they starred in the 2019 movie Between Maybes.

During his Rogin-E press conference (which happened minutes before his tell-all about Julia and Bea was released), Gerald said he is able to “compose” himself from the stress of the comments about his personal life by having a “perspective.”

And how does he gain this “perspective”? He explained, “Maraming tao diyan na mas malala. nangunguarakot. alam mo yun. So parang pag ganun inisip mo, mababawasan (yung stress). Nagagalit dahil sa love life ko, Dahil di nagwork relationship ko. Kailangan may perspective ka.”

He knows that nothing he will say can change people’s judgment of him.

“And hindi ko yan goal sa buhay na parang, ‘Please, sana magiba isip niyo sa akin.’ Hindi naman.”

Life needs to go on, he added. “Ang importante, wala ako tinatapakan na tao. I’m just trying to live life. Provide for my family. Enjoy life.”

“So pag may perspective ka malalampasam mo naman. But things also happen in your life for a reason. You have to, kumbaga, realize, kung saan ka rin nagkamali and move on, move forward in your life.”

He also chooses to focus on his businesses (he has a fitness gym and a resort in Zambales) and his acting career (he has an upcoming show, Init sa Magdamag, on ABS-CBN).

“Every since naman, mataas standard ko sa sarili. No one will push me more than myself lalo na pagdating sa trabaho ko,” he said.
