Rustan’s The Beauty Source’s #GRLPWR campaign is all about female empowerment and raising your voice

Published Mar 12, 2021 3:10 am Updated Mar 12, 2021 5:28 am

Every day is worthy of a celebration, but this month is even more special as we celebrate International Women’s Month!

Following last year’s success of the first-ever Rustan’s Beauty Addict #GRLPWR event, this 2021, Rustan’s presents #GRLPWR: Make It Happen, a live beauty event dedicated to inspire and honor women, featuring panelists Nikki Huang (writer and student), Janina Manipol (film director, entrepreneur, and content creator), Joey Mead-King (multimedia host, PAWS advocate, and holistic meditative enthusiast), and Pinky Webb (journalist, CNN Philippines Senior Anchor and correspondent). During the event, these amazing women talked about their careers, passions, advocacies, and everything in between.

Hosted by Marie Lozano, this year’s online event was held last March 5, 4 pm via Rustan’s The Beauty Source Facebook Page. Each guest was asked to share about their personal challenges during the pandemic, personal style, beauty routines, advocacies, advice to their fellow women to get through our current situation, and more. Scroll further to see some of their inspiring words:

Janina Manipol on how to boost your productivity at home

“What I do to be able to be productive at home is I spruce up my workstation. If you’re just at home, it’s important to have a defined work schedule for the day, write your task, have a goal list, and have a positive attitude always—that’s me, I always want to be positive and happy.

Most importantly, be creative and don’t let your confined circumstances hinder you from your productivity. For me, your greatest power is your perspective.”

On coping with our current situation and how others can curb their worries to something positive

“I usually just keep myself busy. I like learning new things, so I invest a lot of time in my growth. Exercising and meditation helped me as well. Every day, I try to do something that makes me feel good - just constantly finding glimmers of hope, positive thinking, and a lot of prayers.”

Pinky Webb on amplifying voices and her advocacy

“What I really do right now is what my job entails. I have a voice to be able to help people, ask people, allow people to ask their questions, allow people to take up their concerns to authorities. My job allows me to do that, and I think that is a very, very special thing—having that voice to decipher real from fake, truth from false. I think that’s a big job, that’s a big responsibility for me, and I take that very seriously. And I think that is my advocacy, for now, to be able to—as much as possible—bring out the truth.”

On her advice for women

“Try and do your best every single day because the last thing you want to feel is regretting that you didn’t give it your 100%. Always take pride in everything you do, honor your profession and evolve! Oh, and don’t forget to show appreciation to the people around you, whether they are family, friends, colleagues, or your helpers at home. Remember, some are working harder than you. So say thank you, it's the easiest thing to do."

Nikki Huang defines what success means to her

“To me, a successful woman is someone who understands that she is in control of her own destiny and that she decides her worth, instead of other people deciding it for her. I think a very important theme for us to think about, given that it’s Women’s month is that in society right now, women are held up to so many standards. You have people left, right, and center, telling them what to do, how they should look like, and what to be, and I think that it is important for us women to remember that our power and our success ultimately comes from having a say in what we want to do, who we want to become and how we define ourselves. So, I think on a broad scale that’s what success means to me.”

On her advocacy about mental health issues and how she aims to inspire women to be an influence of change or positivity to those around them

“I think one of the key ways I want to inspire other women is to promote that we take our education seriously. It has been shown that having as many women in higher education as possible is key to a society’s economic growth and socioeconomic wellbeing. On a more personal note, I feel that through education women are able to learn enough about the world that we get to determine our own values, dream our own dreams and chart our own journeys. Society is constructed such that women are always told who they should be and how to measure themselves and I am all for the radical idea that women should be the ones who decide who they are, what they want to do, and who they want to be, rather than let society dictate it to them. Education is one of the key ways to achieve that.”

Joey on her advice to fellow women

My advice for my fellow women, sis women, female expressive, those who have a feminine side, it’s the art of learning—or wanting to marry yourself. Would you marry you? What (is it) about you that you want to marry and be with forever?

On the most challenging issue she had to deal with during the pandemic and how she overcame it

“My most challenging issue during the pandemic was learning to find space and openness to uncertainty.” In response to the second question, she shared, “no overcoming but [I’m] still practicing mental maintenance in daily living.”

Here's a reminder to all women that you are strong, confident, intelligent and capable. The world is more beautiful because of you.
