Alex Gonzaga looks back on first pregnancy, miscarriage: ‘Yun ang nagpatibay at nagpalakas sa’min ni Mikee’
Alex Gonzaga said she is now slowly picking up the pieces by leaving “it all up to the Lord” after enduring the hearbreak of her miscarriage.
Gonzaga recalled how she and her husband, Lipa City councilor Mikee Morada, handled her first pregnancy in a vlog on Sunday, Oct. 24. The actress revealed that she and her husband came from a vacation in Batangas when she discovered that she was pregnant.
“We were both excited and told our family and doctor right away. Although we were advised by our doctor not to announce it yet until the end of our 3rd trimester. But we were excited talaga ih,” Gonzaga narrated.
Two weeks later, Gonzaga and Morada went through their “saddest days” as a couple when they found out that the actress had a blighted ovum pregnancy. This type of pregnancy occurs when a fertilized egg cell doesn’t develop into an embryo.
“We found out there is no development. There is no embryo. We weren’t able to take videos anymore. Our doctor said we have to wait another week to confirm if the pregnancy will not push thru anymore,” she said.
Gonzaga recalled the moment when her doctor touched her legs, she knew there “was something wrong.” “I know that Mikee’s waiting outside. Doon lang ako sobrang nasa-sad kasi alam kong ‘di lang ako ‘yung may gusto, lalo na si Mikee.”
The actress recounted that she experienced pain and bleeding when she had her miscarriage, which made the couple go to the hospital.
After being discharged from the hospital, Gonzaga revealed that she cried “it all out” after realizing that her pregnancy was “really over.” She also admitted that “seeing random babies on the internet” makes her cry.
“I thought I’m okay. Pero sabi naman ni ‘Doc, ‘It’s a process. May mga times na malulungkot ka pa rin, but it’s fine,” she added.
Morada revealed in the vlog that he had been researching to help his wife in handling her pregnancy. “Sumilip din ako sa maraming forum ng mga nanay na marami rin pala ang dumadaan sa ganitong proseso at mas na-appreciate ko ‘yun… Kung ano ang pinagkaloob sa ‘yo, tatanggapin namin.”
Gonzaga also admitted that she felt like she “failed” as a wife after her miscarriage, but she came to realize that it’s not her fault why she lost her baby.
“If it’s meant that the Lord will bless you with a new life, it will happen. You just really have to leave it all up to the Lord. ‘Yun ang nagpatibay sa’min ni Mikee, ‘yun ang nagpalakas sa’min kaya ngayon, we get to share (our story)... ‘Dun ko rin na-realize that we have to be strong for each other” she added.
Gonzaga added that if she gets pregnant in the future, she and her husband wouldn’t announce it right away.
The couple tied the knot in November 2020.
