Two very different political views, opposing even. But both, very much admired. For the second consecutive year together, President Rodrigo Duterte and actress Angel Locsin have topped the Philippines' list of "most admired."

The two led the men and women categories in a survey by international research group YouGov.

Duterte, in the hot seat for his response to the current pandemic on his penultimate presidential year, topped at 19.67%. He was followed by boxer-politician Manny Pacquiao (10.65%), Manila City mayor Isko Moreno (7.96%), Hollywood actor Jackie Chan (7.43%), and the Catholic Church's Pope Francis (6.89%).

Locsin, at 15.03%, is an ABS-CBN talent who was recently vocal against the current administration especially on its stand on her home network's franchise denial. She once tweeted her "regret" over voting for Duterte. In the survey, the Darna star was followed by Miss Universe 2018 Catriona Gray (11.09%), singers Sarah Geronimo (7.47%) and Taylor Swift (7.36%), and Hollywood actress Angelina Jolie (6.93%).

Former US President Barack Obama (8.9%) and wife Michelle (7.8%) ranked as the world's most admired man and woman, the survey additionally revealed.

YouGov first conducted the online poll from January to March this year, right before the pandemic hit. From panellists across 42 countries and territories, it asked open-ended nominations with the question, “Thinking about people alive in the world today, which (man or woman) do you most admire?” It then compiled lists of 20 men and women, which received the most nominations and were nominated in at least four countries.

YouGov then used these lists to poll each of the 42 areas from May to September. It asked respondents, “Who do you truly admire?” (multiple choice) and “Who do you MOST admire?” (one answer). It finally combined these two numbers into a percentage share of "admiration."

"By asking respondents two questions, we can understand both the breadth (i.e. global reach) and the intensity of a person's support," the group concluded.

YouGov posted the rest of ithe results on its site, including the world's and those of the US, UK, Canada, and Australia.

It clarified that countries with "low internet penetration" only employed a sample representative to the online population. These countries and territories included the Philippines, China (including Hong Kong), Egypt, Indonesia, Malaysia, Pakistan, and Vietnam.
