Jessica Soho for president? Here are some of the funniest tweets about the 'Jessica Soho Presidential Interviews'

By NICK GARCIA Published Jan 24, 2022 6:07 pm

GMA Network's "The Jessica Soho Presidential Interviews" has been well-received by a number of Filipinos due to the depth of the issues covered and how the veteran journalist steered the show.

As always, social media showed its appreciation to the Jan. 22 show with good humor and memes.

Miss Trans Global 2020 Mela Habijan wrote that Soho is the "HR Hiring Manager the Philippines deserves," based on how the veteran journalist scrutinized the candidates.

For Eulan Mallari, Soho could pass for "THAT" thesis panelist many college students may have had memories with.

User @BeeBeePotat shared an edited photo of Soho using the Hand Point a Gun meme, because of how tough most of her questions had been.

With Soho earning praises left, right, and center for her interview, user @bayagbayagbayag wondered whether she could be the next president of the country.

User @paps_machine, meanwhile, joked that if he runs for the presidency and Soho would interview him, she would bring up the memes he had shared in the past. In interviewing the candidates, Soho referred to several screenshots of their old pronouncements, dubbed as "receipts" in the internet culture.

Because of how Soho raised several past issues in the candidates' lives, user @zarceeeee recalled a scene from the 2013 movie Four Sisters and a Wedding, in which the character of Toni Gonzaga famously said, "Oh my goodness! Ungkatan ng past!"

User @kojieshain, meanwhile, shared a GIF image of singer Maris Racal, where she's sassily typing on her keyboard. For her, Soho and her research team may be exhibiting the same energy as Racal in writing questions for the candidates.

User @psychokenetics commended Soho for asking the "RIGHT" questions with "RRL," or review of related literature. Indiana-based research institution Purdue University defines RRL as a "document or section of a document that collects key sources on a topic and discusses those sources in conversation with each other."

With Soho's critical questions, Ben Bernabe said a candidate may just block her on social media after the interview. While Bernabe didn't name anybody, those who replied mentioned Ping Lacson, as someone who supposedly has a habit of blocking users he disagrees with.

Jai Cabajar praised streaming giant Netflix. Soho quizzed Lacson about his sudden change of heart regarding the reimposition of death penalty, as he supposedly had an epiphany after watching "The Life of David Gale" on the platform.

Benok Castillo, meanwhile, gave Anglo-Irish politician Edmund Burke an imaginary dialog, "Ba't ako nasali dito."

Francisco "Isko Moreno" Domagoso had referenced Burke several times in the interview, citing a supposed quote from him: “The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing.”

But whether the quote is actually Burke's remains a mystery.

Some users also poked fun at Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr.'s absence in the interview.

His camp accused Soho of being "biased." The Kapuso network has since decried their claims.

A TikTok user also edited an excerpt of the interview where aspirants described photos of national issues in one word.

The edit featured Domagoso, supposedly reacting toward images of Nayeon and Jihyo of the K-Pop group TWICE.

In the three-hour program, GMA invited the five leading presidential candidates in pre-election surveys—Marcos Jr., Leni Robredo, Lacson, Domagoso, and Manny Pacquiao—to know "their intentions behind running for the position, the controversies thrown at them, their stand on pressing issues and their concrete plans should they be elected."

On the GMA Public Affairs YouTube channel, "The Jessica Soho Presidential Interviews" got over 4.6 million views and 100,000 likes since airing last Saturday. To date, it's still No. 1 on the platform's trending list.

#JessicaSohoInterviews has also been included in Twitter's list of trending topics, with over 37,000 tweets containing the hashtag since 6:00AM of Jan. 24, based on Twitter trends tracker, trends24.

GMA News Online has reported that #JessicaSohoInterviews topped local trends, with over 164,000 tweets at 9:00PM on Jan. 22.
