Appliance store chain Automatic Centre is set to close operations by next month amid challenges from the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic.
“We would like to announce today that Automatic Appliances Inc. (AAI) will officially close down its appliance retailing operations effective Oct.10, 2021,” AAI president and chief executive officer Geoffrey Lim said in a letter on Sept. 8.
He said the decision to close Automatic Centre was made as the COVID-19 pandemic has caused tremendous challenges on the business.
“As AAI winds down its appliance retail operations, we would like to assure you that we remain committed to honoring our obligations and that we intend to work closely with each of you to ensure a smooth transition and closing process,” he said.
He also said AAI is seeking out parties that may be interested in using or adopting the Automatic Centre brand name moving forward.
Automatic Centre started its operations in 1948, with its first outlet occupying a 40-sqm. area along Avenida in Rizal, Manila.
The brand is known for selling high-quality appliances, electronics and gadgets at reasonable prices and at affordable payment terms.
According to the company’s website, there are currently 20 Automatic Centre stores nationwide located in the Greater Manila Area and Metro Cebu.
