PH hits another record high with 28,707 new COVID-19 cases confirmed on Sunday, Jan. 9

The Philippines reached another record high for coronavirus infections on Sunday, Jan. 9.

According to the Department of Health’s COVID-19 bulletin, the number of new confirmed cases in the country reached 28,707 Sunday—over 2,000 higher than yesterday (Jan. 8)’s record, which was at 26,458. This has brought the country’s total to 2,965,447. 

Of the 128,114 total active cases, 4,213 are asymptomatic, 119,276 are mild, 2,851 are moderate, 1,465 are severe, and 309 are critical.

Some 2,579 recovered from the disease, bringing the country’s total recoveries to 2,785,183. Meanwhile, 15 COVID-related deaths were added to the PH’s Covid death toll, which has reached 52,150.

On Jan. 8, an AFP tally showed that the world “recorded more than two million daily coronavirus cases on average between Jan. 1 and 7, with figures doubling in 10 days.”
