Comelec to allow online reactivation of delisted voters in August

Did you fail to vote for two consecutive Philippine elections? If yes, then you are among the over six million Filipino voters who have been delisted by the Commission on Elections, under the Voter’s Registration Act of 1996.

For those who want to reactivate their voter registration, Comelec Commissioner Rowena Guanzon announced on a Facebook post Wednesday, Aug. 12, that online reactivation will be available in August.

“Reactivation of voters who failed to vote in two consecutive elections will soon be through e-mail this month,” Guanzon wrote.

“6.3 million voters were deactivated but their biometrics are still in the database of the Commission on Elections, hence they need not apply for reactivation in person,” she added.

On Twitter, Guanzon also said the reactivation for delisted persons with disabilities and senior citizens have been approved by the Comelec en banc. The reactivation process for these sectors, according to Guanzon, would be through e-mail and the oath will take place before an election officer through video. There will be more details to follow on this procedure, according to the commissioner.

Voter registration is suspended in areas under enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) and modified enhanced community quarantine (MECQ), due to the closure of some Comelec offices in the affected areas. Pre-pandemic, one needs to go to a local Comelec office to have their voter registration reactivated.

Despite the suspension of voter registration activities because of the reimposition of ECQ and MECQ, the poll body reiterates that there will be no extension of its Sept. 30 voter registration deadline.

Guanzon assures the public on Tuesday, Aug. 10, that the Comelec is finding ways to allow applicants more time to sign up for the 2022 elections.

The poll body says as of June 2021, a total of 60 million Filipino voters have so far registered.
