The University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) is reviving school spirit as it will finally allow spectators and fans back to sports courts beginning April 5.

The decision to welcome back the live audience came after consultations with biosecurity officers, the Commission on Higher Education, and the Pasay city local government.

"We accelerated the opening to a live audience with Alert Level 1 continuing in Metro Manila," said UAAP president Nonong Calanog.

"Our priority is the health and safety of our student-athletes and minimizing the risks of COVID-19. After discussions with our health officers and putting a few additional protocols in place, we are now ready to have fans back in the arena," he continued.

The 84th season of the league kicked off on March 26 after the COVID-19 pandemic put it on hold for two years. The games started off without a live crowd but it will open its doors to fans again in April, starting with the upcoming men's basketball games.

"The UAAP is a competition best experienced with students and alumni supporting their respective schools," Calanog said.

Tickets for the events will be available on April 2 at the MOA Arena and online through SM Tickets. Students of the UAAP schools can get discounts on Upper Box and General Admission tickets when they present their ID at the MOA Arena.

Only individuals vaccinated against COVID-19 are allowed to enter the venue and wearing of face masks is required at all times. They must also present their vaccination card along with a valid ID upon entry.

Eating and drinking are not allowed inside the event bowl, but there will be designated areas where these are allowed.
