Newborn twin sisters end up with separate birthdays in different years

Typically, twins share the same birthday but a newborn pair of baby girls welcomed during New Year's ended up being born in two separate years.

In Texas, Kali Jo Scott gave birth to her first twin girl Annie Jo on Dec. 31, 2022, at 11:55 p.m., while her second twin Effie Rose was delivered on Jan. 1, 2023, at 12:01 a.m. They were the last and first babies born at the Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Denton in 2022 and 2023, respectively.

The mother and her husband Cliff anticipated that their fraternal twins would come into the world around midnight.

"We had kinda joked, 'Wouldn't it be funny if, you know, with the holiday and New Year's Eve over the weekend. If they had their own birthday, and then it turned out that was more of a possibility than we realized," Kali Jo told CBS Austin.

The new mom shared photos of the babies on Facebook, noting that they came out happy and healthy at 5.5 pounds.

"Now it's two totally different birthdays," she said to Good Morning America. "One will celebrate New Year's Eve going out and gets to celebrate New Year's Day and the new year coming in. We're going to have to start celebrating New Year's a little differently now."

The parents shared that they're excited that the twins get their own birthdays, telling People Magazine, "You will always still want to make sure they have their own individual personality and know that they are unique."
