Father stabbed to death after asking suspect to stop vaping near daughter

It's an unspoken rule that you should not smoke or vape in front of children, and so a father tried to tell that to a man who was vaping near his daughter, it led to him being stabbed to death.

In a report by Vancouver Sun, the victim, Paul Stanley Schmidt, was hanging outside a Starbucks store in Vancouver, British Columbia together with his toddler daughter. His fiance, Ashley Umali, was inside ordering some drinks.

At that time, he noticed that the suspect, identified as Inderdeep Singh Gosal, was vaping near his three-year-old daughter and told him to stop.

Instead of putting the e-cigarette away, Gosal started a violent confrontation with Schmidt that ended in him pulling a knife from his pocket and ending the life of the father.

Kathy Schmidt, the victim's mother, told the news outlet that Schmidt's fiance witnessed the incident and was "in shock" and "devastated" at the whole things.

"This is so horribly wrong what happened. He was just trying to protect his daughter. I’m angry and I’m sad."

Gosal has since been charged with second-degree murder for his criminal act and has since been put behind bars. Meanwhile, Schmidt's family, as well as authorities in Vancouver, urged the public to refrain from sharing the graphic and "incredibly traumatizing" video of the victim getting stabbed, which was recorded by nearby onlookers.
