Heads up, aspiring authors: The National Book Development Board is offering publication grants

Want to get your book published but don't have the means or even the faintest idea to jumpstart it? The National Book Development Board (NBDB) has got you covered.

For the first time since its inception, the Department of Education's agency for the development of the local book industry is granting aid to authors and publishers that need financial help in getting published works.

"After sitting down to write all your creative ideas, it’s now time to bring your work out for the world to read and appreciate," the NBDB shared in a Facebook post.

As publication alone can be costly, the grant provides financial subsidies for all steps involved in the publication of Filipino-authored books for the global audience "

The NBDB is open to receiving manuscripts with genres ranging from climate, diversity, poetry, anthologies, crime fiction, sci-fi, graphic novels, horror, romance, and non-fiction. They can either be written in Philippine languages or English.

If accepted, the NBDB will aid in the process of publishing a book—from copy editing, layout, design, to eventually printing of recently developed manuscripts and/or research works.

Each grantee will be receiving up to P200,000 per accepted title. Not only that, accepted applicants will be given courses in topics related to publishing their work, such as Book Design, Marketing, and Pitch Sessions.

The NBDB is looking for authors in the following categories:

• Track A: Filipino authors who are able to complete manuscripts under the NBDTF program or similar government manuscript development grant programs.

• Track B: Filipino authors who are able to complete manuscripts and with an existing agreement with a publisher but without funding for development and publication of the manuscript.

• Track C: Local publishers who are able to publish titles but without funding for printing.

Think you'll be one for the books? Applications begin from May 13, 2022 until June 11, 2022. Interested applicants can apply here.
