PRC reschedules NCR medical board exam to March 2022

Chairperson of the board of medicine of the PRC Dr. Eleanor Almoro said the Physicians Licensure Examination (PLE) in Metro Manila will be rescheduled to March 2022.

The Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) announced the postponement of the examination yesterday. “The next scheduled examination is in March 2022 because the PRC has a full schedule of examination for the rest of the year,” Dr. Almoro said in an interview during the #LagingHanda briefing.

Almoro said the PLE is postponed because the regional IATF denied the request of PRC to conduct the examination in Metro Manila due to the quarantine classification of Modified Enhanced Community Quarantine (MECQ), which does not allow mass gatherings.

“Hindi po natin sinasadya na mag cancel ang board exam. The quarantine classification of Metro Manila has been reclassified to MECQ starting Sep. 8,” said Almoro.

However, the PRC also announced that the PLE in other regions will proceed as scheduled on Sep. 11, 12, 18, and 19 in Baguio, Cagayan de Oro, Cebu, Davao, Iloilo, Legazpi, Lucena, Tacloban, Tuguegarao, and Zamboanga.

Almoro claimed the examination will be safe, as the PRC has established minimum health protocols and guidelines for the examination. “We have been conducting examinations since September last year. And there are no reports of events that occurred during the licensure examination nor reports of covid infection, provided that they complied with the minimum health protocols.”

According to the PRC, around 2,600 examinees from NCR are affected by the postponement of the PLE. The PRC will allow them to take the next examination without forfeiting their examination fees.

Other than the postponement of the PLE, the PRC also postponed the Qualifying Assessment for Foreign Medical Professionals (QAFMP) and Licensure Examination for Respiratory Therapists (LERT) scheduled this month in Metro Manila.
