Catriona Gray, Nicole Cordoves clear up issue on Bb. Pilipinas winner announcement

It seems that an issue has been brewing online in the recently concluded Binibining Pilipinas 2022 competition, with some netizens believing that there was a mistake in the announcement of the winners.

However, the pageant's hosts, Catriona Gray and Nicole Cordoves, dispelled the rumors about the blunder in crowning the queens.

The allegations began when eagle-eyed viewers noticed that an official approached and conversed with the hosts regarding the results just before they named the new Bb. Pilipinas International, which led to a delay in the announcement.

Catriona and Nicole took to their respective social media accounts to post a statement that sets the record straight about the issue.

"As the hosts of last night's Binibining Pilipinas 2022, we announced the winners accordingly based on the titles printed on the cards as these were handed over by SGV & Co., partner and representative, Mr. Ocho," they wrote.

They added, "As a member of the overseeing committee during the deliberations, Mr. Ocho later rechecked the cards and confirmed that the results previously announced were correct, which became the decisive factor in moving forward with the announcement."

Should there have been a mistake in the announcement, Catriona and Nicole stressed that they would immediately remedy the error.

"As former candidates ourselves, we understand what the girls go through and would, therefore—without a second thought—correct any errors, if any were made. But as already explained, SGV & Co. partner and representative Mr. Ocho himself confirmed the validity of the results," they wrote.

The former beauty queens ended their post by congratulating the winning candidates.

"Let's celebrate our Queens who are wearing their rightful crowns. Congratulations to our new Binibining Pilipinas Queens! I'm so excited to witness your journeys and I know you will make our country proud!!" Catriona wrote on her Instagram.

"Congratulations to our new queens! Your reign may not always be as smooth-sailing, but that’s what makes Binibinis special—we learn to command the waves," Nicole meanwhile penned.

In case you missed it, the pageant had crowned Cebu’s Nicole Borromeo as Bb. Pilipinas Miss International; Tacloban City’s Chelsea Fernandez as Bb. Pilipinas Globe; Borongan, Eastern Samar’s Gabrielle Basiano as Bb. Pilipinas Intercontinental; and San Pablo, Laguna’s Roberta Angela Tamondong as Bb. Pilipinas Miss Grand International.
