WATCH: Pauline Amelinckx shares passion for the ocean as her advocacy in Miss Supranational 2023

It's one thing to work hard to become a certified diver, and it's another to do it to influence a whole community for the good.

Pauline Amelinckx is aiming to do just that—spark inspiration among the young to protect marine life—as she competes in this year's Miss Supranational pageant.

The Boholonian beauty queen revealed this goal in her clip produced by Miss Supranational, titled "From the Ground Up," which is part of the pageant's video series which presents each of its 67 candidates' advocacies.

In her video entry, Amelinckz discusses how she hopes to inspire the youth to take action in taking care of the marine environment. The 27-year-old beauty queen shares that she always loved the ocean since she was a child which prompted her to become a certified freediver.

“Ever since I was a kid, I have loved swimming and being in the ocean, and in my journey as a certified free diver, my appreciation for this beautiful wonder has deepened,” she says.

“And the drive to further nourish and protect it for this generation and the next has only intensified,” she continues.

Apart from diving, Amelinckz has a penchant for drawing. She then combined both hobbies to create something "more purposeful," specifically a marine animal-themes colorinb book for kids which she distributed to different communities in the country in 2019.

Helping both the marine environment and youth to thrive in all ways that she can, Pauline hopes that the coloring book will help the younger generation "to instill more care and appreciation for the marine environment."

"This coloring book can be both educational and enabling to inspire the next generation to nurture and restore the ocean," she says.

"Today, that same coloring book has already been shared and distributed around different island communities and schools in the province of Bohol."

The beauty queen highlights how collective effort can bring significant change in protecting and making the environment better.

"Creating positive change sometimes seems impossible to do on your own, but we are not alone. Together, we can build a generation where children and adults can be guided to become stewards of marine life and let their appreciation transform into action to protect our ocean from adverse activities and climate change," she says.

The Boholana beauty queen also shares how she’s been working with different organizations like JCI Chocolate Hills and Yellow Boat of Hope Foundation to reach and help more communities.

"With the platform of Miss Supranational, we can now transcend borders and reach out to work with other nations to make that difference," she concludes her video.

Amelinckx was crowned Miss Supranational last May 13. Her win has given her the opportunity to compete abroad for the first time. She is vying for the country’s second Miss Supranational title following Mutya Johanna Datul who won in 2013. The coronation night will be held on July 14 at the Strzelecki Park Amphitheater in Nowy Sacz, Poland.
