Liza Soberano's father defends her against claims that are 'out of proportion'
The father of actress Liza Soberano defended his daughter after she's accused of being "ungrateful" after lamenting the would-be restrictions in her showbiz career.
"Everybody blows everything out of proportion," John Castillo Soberano said in a TikTok video posted by News5's MJ Marfori on Feb. 27. John was present at Liza's launch as brand ambassador and chief advocacy officer of financial services company Maya.
"Sometimes, you have to sit back and relax and rewatch what she said and really understand what she’s saying,” he told critics.

In another video posted by Marfori on Instagram, John apologized to members of the public for not getting Liza's points.
"Since you guys are all hurt, I’m very sorry for what you guys didn’t understand," he said.
In a Feb. 26 vlog titled "This is Me," the 25-year-old Liza looked back in her 13-year showbiz career, which began when she's just 12.
She lamented how she had no "real break" and didn't have a childhood nor had the chance to grow in her own terms.
"I had always been told what to do, what to wear, what to say, and what not to say. I know this was for my own good. It was to protect me and my career, but it was a career I had no say in. A career that in many ways wasn't mine," she said.
She then expressed her gratitude for James Reid, her new manager who owns the record label Careless.
She also reintroduced herself as Hope Soberano (she's born Hope Elizabeth Soberano), noting she didn't choose the name "Liza" for herself.
Liza, however, pointed out that her vlog is "not a story of bitterness or regret but rather "a story about growth and gratitude."
Her vlog drew mixed reactions, with others calling her "ungrateful."
Liza's former talent manager Ogie Diaz dismissed her statements about supposedly having no say in her career and that people around her were allegedly controlling her.
Still, Diaz wished Liza the best in her future endeavors, reiterating how she can always reach out to him.
Executives from ABS-CBN, Liza's home network, meanwhile alluded to the vlog by tweeting against ungratefulness, desperation, and blaming.
As Hope Soberano, she's set to appear in the upcoming Hollywood film Lisa Frankenstein alongside Cole Sprouse and Kathryn Newton.
