Filipino gymnast Carlos Yulo stumbled during his floor exercise final at the 50th FIG Artistic Gymnastics World Championships on Oct. 23, Saturday, finishing in 5th place.

The athlete won the event in 2019 but failed to recapture the floor exercise title again this year.

His feet went out of bounds during the routine, resulting in a 0.30 penalty.

However, Yulo scored a 6.600, the highest score in difficulty among the finalists, and logged an 8.266 for execution. With the 0.30 deduction, he received a 14.566 score, which put him in fifth place.

Without the deduction, the 21-year-old could have retained his title as Italy's Nicola Bartolini clinched the gold with a score of 14.800.

Japan's Kazuki Minami and Finland's Emil Soravuo won silver and bronze.

Yulo is set to compete in two more final events, parallel bars and vault, on Sunday where he still has a chance to win gold.
