The body of a missing 2-year-old child in Florida has been found inside the mouth of an alligator just a day after her mother’s murder.

In a Facebook post by the St. Petersburg Police Department on Saturday, April 1, authorities said Taylen Mosley was reported missing on Thursday, March 30, when his mom Pashun Jeffery was discovered to have been stabbed to death in her home.

After a major search that involved dogs, a drone, as well as federal and state law enforcement agencies, they found the boy's remains in the jaws of an alligator, who they had to kill to retrieve his body.

“We didn’t want to find him this way, but at least we can bring some closure to that family now,” he said at a press conference, according to a report by NBC News.

Police chief Anthony Holloway said that they are in talks with a medical expert to determine what really caused the child's death.

NBC News reported that the boy's father, Thomas Mosley, “checked himself into a hospital and had cuts on his arms and hands” when the incident happened. At the time, he refused to talk to investigators and requested to have a lawyer.

According to authorities, Thomas has been charged with two counts of first-degree murder for the death of Pashun and their son.
