In celebration Labor Day, workers will get free rides at Light Rail Transit Line 2 (LRT-2) and the Metro Rail Transit Line 3 (MRT-3) on Wednesday, May 1.

According to an advisory by the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) released on Friday, April 26, all workers are entitled to free rides on the said lines during morning peak hours from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m., and in the afternoon to early evening from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.

To avail of the free ride, passengers aged 18 and above must present their valid company ID or government-issued ID.

Labor Day aims to celebrate all the hardworking workers in the Philippines. It was lobbied as a bill in April 1908 by the Philippine Assembly before becoming a national holiday. It was first celebrated on May 1, 1903, when the first labor union Congreso Obrero de Filipinas was established. Thousands of workers called for fairer working conditions during the then-American-led government.
