Carlo Paalam wins silver for the Philippines at the Tokyo Olympics
Carlo Paalam has just claimed the silver medal in the men's flyweight (48-52kg) gold medal bout at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
He was defeat by Great Britain's Galal Yafai via split decision on Saturday, Aug. 7.
Despite the loss, the Philippines bagged two other medals in boxing at the Games.
Nesthy Petecio bagged a silver medal at the women's featherweight and Eumir Marcial took home a bronze medal at the men's middleweight fight.

Filipino boxer Eumir Marcial punched his way to the men’s middleweight division semifinals after defeating Arman Darchinyan of Armenia.
Marcial landed a solid right hook on Darchinyan’s face with only 49 seconds left of the first round.
This marks the Philippines’ first time since 1932 to secure a multi-medal Olympic haul.
Filipino boxer Nesthy Petecio is only one step away from winning an Olympic gold
It's one more win for the Olympic gold medal for Nesthy Petecio!
On July 31, Petecio won via split decision against Italy’s Irma Testa in their semifinal bout.
She is the first Filipino boxer to move into an Olympic boxing final after 25 years.
Carlo Paalam will fight for bronze medal
Carlo Paalam won via unanimous decision in the men's flyweight round of 16 on Saturday, July 31, and is set to fight next week for a bronze medal.
He beat two-time Olympian Mohamed Flissi of Algeria, who also became a quarterfinalist at the 2016 Rio Olympics, during the men's fly (48-52kg) preliminaries round of 16 boxing match at the Kokugikan Arena in Tokyo.
Paalam will face Uzbekistan's Shakhobidin Zoirov in the quarterfinals on Tuesday, August 3, at 10:15 am.
EJ Obiena advances to the Tokyo 2020 Olympics men's pole vault final
Pole vaulter EJ Obiena ranked 6th in the world in the qualifying round on Saturday, July 31, at the Olympic stadium, and is set to compete for the finals.
On Saturday morning, the 25-year-old athlete was able to clear 5.50m and 5.65m records.
He will join Armand Duplantis of Sweden, 2016 Rio de Janeiro champion Thiago Braz of Brazil, and 2012 London winner Renaud Lavillenie of France for the finals round on Tuesday, August 3, at 6:20 pm, Philippine time.
Filipino rower Cris Nievarez advances to quarterfinals
Cris Nievarez opened the Philippines’ campaign in the Tokyo Olympics on a positive note after qualifying in the semifinals of the men’s rowing single sculls event.
Nievarez, a native of Atimonan, Quezon, advanced in the competition after finishing third in his heat with a time of seven minutes and 22.97 seconds. Damir Martin of Croatia finished first at seven minutes and 9.17 seconds, followed by Alexander Vyazovkin of Russia at seven minutes and 14.95 seconds.
