Comelec postpones Dec. 15 release date of 2022 candidates list due to 'unresolved nuisance cases'

The Commission on Elections has postponed its target Dec. 15 release date of the final list of candidates for the 2022 national elections.

"There are still a number of unresolved nuisance cases," Comelec spokesman Jimenez said on Dec. 14.

Jimenez said they need "at least two more weeks" more to sort things out.

He earlier announced that the final list of candidates will be out by Dec. 15.

The poll body, meanwhile, has already raffled off the 166 party-list groups' order of listing on the official ballots.

Comelec did away with alphabetical listing in 2013 in order to avoid giving supposed advantage to party-lists whose names begin with numbers or letter "A."

Once it completes the official candidates list, Comelec will next print the ballots starting on Jan. 12, 2022. Last day is on May 7.

The 2022 national elections will be on May 9. Overseas Filipinos, meanwhile, may cast their votes starting April 10.
