A man from China learned that the girl he dated online for a year is his best friend’s wife. 

According to local media, Zhou decided to live in Myanmar for a few years to grow his fruit business, but stayed in constant communication with his best friend Xiao Li while he was abroad. Hoping to meet someone despite his busy schedule, he decided to get into online dating and start a relationship with the “friend” of Xiao’s beau. 

Their online romance lasted for over a year, and it reached a point where Zhou sent her partner large amounts of money for shopping. The Chinese man’s love for her grew stronger day by day until he decided to go back to his homeland and take their relationship to the next level.

When he was about to return to China, Xiao told him via a phone call: “You seem to have cheated, your girlfriend is my wife!” Apparently, Xiao’s wife was just impersonating her “friend” on TikTok all this time. 

Zhou hasn’t heard back from his online girlfriend since his discovery. He thought of reporting her to the authorities, but Xiao begged him not to do so and told him he would pay back the money she got instead via an installment plan.

Xiao didn’t keep his promise, which eventually prompted Zhou to take the matter to court. The investigation is still ongoing at this time.
