Fil-Am Utah Jazz star Jordan Clarkson helps restore Filipino food trailer vandalized with anti-Asian graffiti

Utah Jazz guard Jordan Clarkson, who is also half Filipino, is one with everyone looking to #StopAsianHate. 

When the World Famous Yum Yum Food Truck—which is offering a mix of Filipino and Asian food along Layton in Utah—was vandalized with racial slurs, he was quick to send its owners some support. Not only has he helped them restore it with the help of design firm Identity Graphx, he also used his voice on social media to raise awareness of the growing problem.

The 2021 NBA Sixth Man of the Year, who played for the Philippines in the 2018 Asian Games, wrote on Twitter that seeing what happened to the food trailer managed by Ben Pierce “hurt me deeply” as he knows “the pain that hateful language and racism causes.” He’s hoping that such initiative can “lift Ben and his family’s spirit.” 

In a separate post, he additionally declared that “love is more powerful than hate.”

The team behind the small business could only turn out grateful for all the love they have been showered with. “It has been an emotional few days,” they wrote on Facebook, giving special mention to Clarkson, Identity Graphx, and other officials. “The love and support that we got from all of you has been deeply heartfelt. My family can’t thank you guys enough.”

The store is holding a Philippine Independence Day celebration on Saturday, June 12 at Jordan Park in Salt Lake City.
