Presumptive Vice President-elect Sara Duterte-Carpio has accepted the offer to be the country's next Education secretary under the incoming Marcos administration.
In a statement, Duterte-Carpio thanked presumptive President-elect Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. for his trust.
“Before the campaign, we talked about the Department of National Defense. But seeing the way things are at the moment, I expect that people who want to see the new administration to fail will fabricate intrigues about my loyalty and the DND position to break the UniTeam,” she continued, adding that their team “wants a stable Philippines and the most harmonious administration possible.”
After a talk between the presumptive nominees about her future contributions to the country, Duterte-Carpio said it “was decided that I would work on producing skilled learners with the mindset to realize their full potential as individuals.”
“Our country needs a future generation of patriotic Filipinos that advocate peace and discipline in their respective communities,” she said.
DepEd Secretary Leonor Briones, for her part, welcomed the announcement and said they are all set to coordinate with Duterte-Carpio’s team “for the orderly transition of DepEd leadership.”
“We will turn over the Basic Education Plan 2030, the first time that an outgoing administration will leave behind a medium-term plan.”
“We are confident that DepEd will be in able hands and anticipate a continuity,” Briones added.
The vice presidential frontrunner expressed her gratitude to Briones and the entire organization for their readiness to work with her team “for the transition of leadership after the proclamation.”
“We recognize the sincerity, hard work, and dedication of Sec. Liling in implementing education reforms under the Duterte administration,” she said.
In a press conference on May 11, Marcos Jr. announced that the country’s presumptive VP-elect has agreed to take on the position. “Palagay ko kasama na dyan dahil she is a mother and she wants to make sure that her children are well-trained and well-educated, that is the best motivation we can hope for,” he said.
