Content creator Project Nightfall apologizes after drawing ire for video on Marcos Jr.
Polish content creator Agon Hare of Project Nightfall issued an apology for a video he made on Philippine elections and Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. after it drew flak from the presumptive president's supporters.
On May 13, Hare posted a video titled "Why the Philipines chose a dictator's son as president?" wherein he interviewed Filipinos on their hopes and fears for the country's next president. Both critics and supporters, whose faces were blurred for safety purposes, were featured in the video.
"I made a mistake and I'd like to apologize to everyone affected by it. Especially those who have been threatened for their opinions. We wanted to give spotlight to BOTH sides, and simply allow people to speak how they feel," he wrote in his apology on Facebook.
The content creator said he agreed with critics who said the title was "clickbaity."
"We should've avoided that so people actually [focused] on the video and not the 'headline.' I take it as a lesson moving forward," Hare said.
The criticisms and death threats led Hare to take down the video, as he was concerned about the interviewees' safety.
"What I don't think is fair though, is an INSANE amount of aggressive people who send death threats, spill to every channel, and spam total fake news all over the Internet," he said.
"This was simply a video that showed two sides of Filipino opinions, not mine. It sucks that now that I was pushed to remove the video fearing for people's safety," Hare added.
His video has since been reposted on Facebook by other users.
Meanwhile, Filipinos in the comments sections of his posts told Hare to stay out of the country's politics. Others have also said they have unfollowed the creator and urged their fellow Marcos supporters to report the page.
"Comment on your own country!" One user wrote.
"Become a Filipino first and live like a real Filipino before you pass nonsense judgment with your nonsense vlog," said another.
"You don't even know the true story of our country," added another commenter.
Hare has spent time in the Philippines previously and creates videos to raise awareness about global issues similar to Nas Daily. Since posting the Marcos Jr. video, his Facebook follower count has dipped, losing over 100,000 likes in four days.
