Voter registration to resume in areas under MECQ by Sept. 6

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) will resume voter registration in areas under modified enhanced community quarantine (MECQ) starting Sept. 6, 2021.

Spokesman Jimmy Jimenez said on Twitter that the Comelec en banc has registration in MECQ areas from 8AM - 5PM.

He added that in-mall voter registration will be allowed.

The Comelec en banc also approved a resolution to allow women in using their maiden name to register, tweeted Comelec Commissioner Rowena Guanzon.

Voter registration activities were temporarily suspended earlier in August in cities placed under stricter lockdown measures.

Previously, Comelec rejected calls to extend voter registration beyond September 30 and instead allowed longer registration hours, and opening sign-ups on Saturdays and holidays.
