Hobbiton-inspired Airbnb near Manila: Lahluna Bed & Breakfast in Silang, Cavite

By Kara Santos Published Aug 31, 2022 2:08 pm

One of the most sought-after destinations among tourists visiting New Zealand is Hobbiton. The movie set location with hole-in-the-ground dwellings set amidst the lush pastures of "The Shire" has become a dream destination for many after appearing onscreen in Peter Jackson’s fantasy movies The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit.

With the new The Lord of the Rings; The Rings of Power series airing on Amazon Prime Video this week, more people will no doubt want to travel to similar-looking idyllic landscapes.

For those who can’t travel to international spots just yet, there are several Hobbit-themed resorts and Airbnb properties around the Philippines.

One of the nearest you can visit within driving distance from Manila is The Lahluna Bed and Breakfast, a 2,000 square meter eco-property surrounded by pineapple fields in Silang, Cavite near Tagaytay City.

The Lahluna Bed and Breakfast is a modern contemporary property that describes itself as “Hobbiton-inspired with a twist.” The environmentally low-impact homes officially opened in the summer of 2018.

Airbnb proprietor Hazel Elizabeth Romualdez, who currently works in Dubai as a Cabin Crew for Emirates Airline, shared with PhilSTAR L!fe how the property came about and what their guests can expect during their stays.

“We were inspired by the Hobbiton in New Zealand. Also, my husband and I love anything about ecology, sustainability, renewed energy hence the design of our place with a modern twist. The grass and vines on top of our place act as an insulator to the dome cement structure,” Romualdez told PhilSTAR L!fe.

The property offers a unique place to stay since the dwellings are completely covered with grass, which keeps the rooms cool especially during the summer months. The cozy dome houses are ideal for couples and families looking to escape from city life for a while.

Visitors can choose from several well-appointed room types in the dome dwellings. Starting at P5,000 per night, the Lahluna Sun Room is ideal for 4 guests, with 1 bedroom, 2 beds and a private bath area. The Star Room comes with 1 bedroom, 3 beds, and 1 bath. Larger loft units can accommodate up to 5 people.

According to the Airbnb host, most guests who choose to stay at Lahluna, do so because of the property’s serene location and romantic view of the sunset, best enjoyed while lounging in a dedicated “socials area.” The place is not for those looking for vibrant nightlife, but rather for those who want to take it slow.

Romualdez also shared that they often get repeat customers, mainly families with children, who missed spending time outdoors during the pandemic lockdowns.

“We have guests that keep on coming back because the kids missed playing with bunnies, our ducks, and our lovely horse named Luna. They go to our place to relax, recluse, and enjoy quiet moments away from the city life,” she said.

“During the pandemic, guests would book because their kids were turning white because of lack of sunlight due to lockdowns and many were living in condominiums,” she added.

Staycations here are great for those who want to commune with nature and get ideas about eco-living for their own homes.

Horse back riding is available by request.

According to their Airbnb listing, the property uses solar panels and wind turbines to supply and lessen its energy needs. They are also committed to recycle, reuse, reduce and hope that guests will leave with the same dedication to save the environment.

The Lahluna's common area allows guests to mingle or just relax and watch the sunrise and sunset. Checked-in guests can also enjoy stargazing at night on their roof deck.

Guests can use bikes free of charge.

Guests can also use the vintage bicycles on the property for free on a first-come-first-serve basis. Horse back riding can also be arranged for guests at an additional price.

The Airbnb host shared that one of their newest ventures is to offer their common spaces for outdoor events. So in case you’re scouting for a location for an intimate wedding, nature-inspired birthday party, or just a much-needed getaway with family and friends where you can all enjoy staying in unique dome houses not so far from Manila, be sure to check out their listing.

Where to eat

Lahluna Bed and Breakfast has a barbecue area where all guests can cook. However, you will need to bring your own ingredients and charcoal.

For those with private vehicles, part of the Airbnb experience is going on food trips to nearby dining spots. There are many restaurants to try, including Bawai Vietnamese, Chateua Hestia, CaffeSant Antonio, Santis Deli, Gourmet Farms, Asiongs Caviteño Restaurant, Balinsasayaw Restaurant, Deli de San Honore, LZM restaurant, and more.
