A passerby tried to buy from the corndog stand in 'Start-Up' and was left disappointed

One of the most iconic places in Netflix's Start-Up has got to be this hole-in-the-wall corndog stand owned by Seo Dal-mi's (Bae Suzy) grandmother, Choi Won-deok (Kim Hae-sook).

The shop was prominently seen during the first episode of the drama, where schoolgoers would usually stop by for a snack after class. It is also where Dal-mi and her penpal "Nam Do-san" exchanged letters and kept them in a birdhouse by the corndog kiosk.

Early this year, one passerby noticed a cheap hotdog stand in his neighborhood that sells snacks for about KRW500 (~₱21). Unaware that it is the same corndog stand in Start-Up, he waited until someone took his order. However, he left disappointed and embarrassed when he found out that it was a set for a drama.

The netizen then shared this funny experience on social media.

In a translation by Koreaboo, the caption said: "Around January or February, I noticed they were selling hotdogs in front of my house for f*cking cheap so I wanted to buy some to take home. As I was hanging around outside, when someone came out I said crap like “Excuse me…the hotdog..~~” and they said it was just a setup for a drama. F*ck I ran home f*cking quick. My friend said Start-Up was fun so I remembered this and wrote this post. If this sort of post isn’t allowed, I’l delete it. Ah f*ck I want to delete it quickly though because it’s so embarrassing…"

But, as it turns out, this place used to be a Korean BBQ restaurant called Hapjeong-don, in Mapo district, Seoul! Unfortunately, after four years, Hapjeong-don closed its doors last February 2020. "Hapjeongdon has shut down after 4 years at the current location. We would like to thank you all who enjoyed and liked our food. Also we are deeply sorry for any inconvenience. We look forward to seeing you soon with our fresh new look at the new location," they wrote on Facebook.

If you still want to check it out though, the address is 47 Huiujeong-ro, Hapjeong-dong, Mapo-gu, Seoul, and the actual birdhouse is still there!
