Mountain Dew to release fruitcake-flavored soda for the holidays
There’s a fruitcake for everybody…including soda lovers!
In true holiday tradition, soft drink brand Mountain Dew (stylized as MTN DEW) has whipped up another novelty flavor this year, inspired by a favorite Christmas staple and gift item.
As the name suggests, MTN DEW Fruit Quake is a fruitcake-flavored soda that is set to get a limited release in the United States this November to December 2022.
In the Philippines, the traditional Christmas Fruitcake is known as a dense yet moist cake chockful of dried fruits and nuts laced with liquor. The festive baked treat is often enjoyed as a dessert and is perfect for holiday gift-giving.
While the soda flavor has yet to receive an official announcement from MTN DEW or PepsiCo, photos of the drink's label and packaging have been circulating online months ahead of its intended launch and have been spotted in some store shelves abroad. The soda brand also reportedly filed a trademark for the name in July.
MTN DEW Fruit Quake will be the fourth dedicated holiday-themed MTN DEW flavor.
The dark red drink is similar in flavor and style to its predecessor, the Holiday Brew “inspired by the Holiday Spirit.” Originally launched in 2017, the discontinued Holiday Brew was a blend of 60% Code Red and 40% Regular Dew, which represented the colors of Christmas.
Another popular holiday flavor that got a three-year run was Merry Mash-Up, a Cranberry Pomegranate flavor that used cranberries as the front-end flavor and the pomegranate serves as an aftertaste back-end flavor with a sweet finish.
Ginger-Snap'd, a cola-based variety with notes of gingerbread cookies, was released for the holidays in 2021.
A MTN DEW Cobra Cane, DEW mixed with a candy cane flavor, is also set for release in 2023.
The MTN DEW Fruit Quake will be released in 12-packs and 20-ounce bottles in stores across the United States for a limited time this November and will be available until December 31, 2022.
As of this writing, there is no news regarding the fruitcake-flavored soda's availability in the Philippines.
